Leaving a safe modest salary to do the same thing but in control and on my own.
Spotting a gap in the market.
Being useful, available and making good friends with decision makers.
Doing something well and not being afraid to charge a premium for it.

Investing rather than overpaying mortgage. I use Microsoft Money and Excel

Starting to track my monthly income/spending, net saving, and wealth in Excel and then Google Sheets. I actually look forward to the start/end of each month to see where I'm upto.
I used to keep budgets but I find I'm not a big spender anyway. If I notice overspend one month it's on my mind the whole of the next.
Deciding I wanted a career instead of just a job.

They were the good days.  I was the same at the time but used funds to prop up my post student salary rather than saved/invested.  Probably made a good 10-15k from it.

Best two situations was I found some odd Greek football correct score’s at 2 to lay, but only made £500 from that and a 25/1 that came in on a really crap bookie that I significantly underpaid to de risk if it came in.

It’s probably a good thing the board here closed.  It was getting too popular and offers dried up.

Favourite bookie has to be 365 with its 4/1 offers.
  • Taking critical illness cover, after 14 payments we were able to claim a 6 figure sum.

Details are all in my head, really need to put it in a spreadsheet
