I submitted an online application (simple estate, cash only, no will) on Wednesday evening (IHT form previously done online and no IHT due). I received email following Monday to say all approved and had the Letters of Administration two days later.0

Three months and counting since I applied for letters of administration - but by post and there was a will. I'm so envious of those who've got theirs quickly.YorksNick said:I received email following Monday to say all approved and had the Letters of Administration two days later.0 -

I have heard anecdotely that online applications generally get turned around with more quickly than those submitted by post.

I applied online just under two weeks ago on 4 October and sent the required documents (will and renunciation of executorship form) to the address in Harlow the same day. PO tracking shows documents received on 5 October, but so far no communication at all. The estate is fairly straightforward with no IHT payable, although there is a 50 percent share of a property involved.(I did read somewhere people need to allow up to 14 days for HMCTS just to acknowledge receipt of the application.)0

Encouraging too - thanks for replyingYorksNick said:I submitted an online application (simple estate, cash only, no will) on Wednesday evening (IHT form previously done online and no IHT due). It was just shy of 2 weeks for us to get receipt of the application, so I assume that's about right. Fingers crossed it's similar for you and it happens quickly!DancingBadger said:I applied online just under two weeks ago on 4 October and sent the required documents (will and renunciation of executorship form) to the address in Harlow the same day. I did wonder if them coming back to ask us to sign something (which we did the same day they asked) would mean we'd go to the back of the queue again, if you know what I mean - I'm being impatient, really, we only got receipt of application 5 days ago, but it's been 6 months since the death and we had so many issues getting to the point of sending the (actually v simple, in the end) HMRC and probate forms off that I can't bear another long wait... although we might have to, obviously.0 -
Oh no, how frustrating - have you chased them up? We were told not to call for an update before 8 weeks had passed, so I assume you'd be able to now.jsatellite said:

Frustrating is right, especially as I've accepted an offer on the house. HMCTS never said don't chase before 8 weeks but I read on this forum that you shouldn't, so I waited and a couple of weeks ago got an update from them saying it was in a queue to be reviewed by a specialist team - no indication of the reason, they were not exactly forthcoming with details. But at least I know it's not been forgotten about.
Wish I had been able to apply online - if there's a will but you're not named on it you can't.
Hopefully you won't have to wait this long.0 -
Did you get your receipt of application yet, @DancingBadger?
It's been 3 and a half weeks since they confirmed receipt of ours, and I feel like I'm checking my emails about 3 times a day now! Probably best not to have my hopes up, I suppose...

IHT205 and Probate applied for online on 11/10/21.
Will sent 19/10/21, and signed for on 20/10/21.
Still no acknowledgement yet that they've received the Will.
IHT still 'In Review'.
