Currys warranty

Options
Evening,

I bought a tumble dryer from currys with a 5 year warranty. Long story short it's packed up and has been written off by the manufacturer. I've got an uplift number from them.

No stock of the dryer to exchange with so I've asked for a different model. Currys won't as its more expensive and I can't pay the difference for some reason. So Ive asked for a gift card.

They've said as I've had the dryer so long they are only prepared to give some paltry amount due to deprecation. Is this correct?

I thought with them advertising a 5 year warranty they should be expected to offer the full amount on replacement or an exchange to a different model.

Thanks

Retailers have the right to reduce a refund for use prior to a fault occurring.

What were the terms of your warranty? These will determine what your entitled to under warranty, as opposed to what you think you are.

A warranty is over and above your consumer rights and contractual. Sometimes these aren't worth the paper they are written on. They can also stipulate additional criteria.

What Curry's seem to be offering is possibly in line with consumer rights.

You'll have to be clear as to what remedy favours you best and exercise this (consumer rights or contractual / warranty)

If you can provide more detail I'm sure you'll get some guidance here as to your best option. That's going to require a little leg work on your part.

Additionally you may want to advise as to how you funded your purchase.

How close to the end of the 5 year warranty are you?
If the terms and conditions of the policy you bought don’t say anything about reductions for depreciation then use their complaints procedure.

Managed to find this from the manufacturer.

    Does Grundig offer replacements?

This is a repair-only guarantee.  On occasion, the Manufacturer may at its sole discretion, replace your product with a new product instead of carrying out a repair.  Where a replacement is offered, this would normally be an identical model, but when this is not possible, a model of similar specification will be provided.  The Manufacturer will cover the costs and arrange for the delivery of the new product and for the return of the old product.  Any costs related to disconnecting the faulty product and installing the replacement product will not be borne by the Manufacturer unless previously agreed to in writing.  The original guarantee will continue to apply to the replacement product; the new product will not come with a new guarantee.

This is what Grundig has agreed to do. Unfortunately there isn't a like for like identical replacement available hence why I've asked for the gift card to buy a different model. Currys won't allow me to pay enough additional money so I can bump up to the next spec so that's the reason I asked for a gift card.

So it’s not a Curry’s warranty then? They’re not going to give you a gift card for a manufacturer warranty because that would be them paying for it rather than Grundig.
Are they expecting more stock of an equivalent model?

From the wording " but when this is not possible, a model of similar specification will be provided."  I would have thought they would have to provide the closest match from their current range.  Specifications obviously move on over the years so if the OP purchased the bottom of the range a few years ago, the replacement should be the current bottom of the range.

Who is the warranty with Grundig or Curry’s?

No it's a manufacturer warranty. The manufacturer referred me back to currys to organise the exchange via the uplift number. Nothing in stock with the same manufacturer and price. Next product up with the same specification/manufacturer is £120 more than what I paid. I suppose I could push for that? As technically its what this warranty provides.

I'm also a little baffled to why currys would not let me pay the difference for a different brand.

Problem is that the manufacturer is replacing not Currys all subject to T&C of the warranty .
Currys may not be receiving enough back from the manufacturer .
Essentially the warranty is nothing to do with Currys .
Note if you had gone down the CR route with Currys replace/ or refund would have been subject to a significant deduction for usage .
