A year to clear it sounds a lot more sustainable and less likely to cause resentment than the four months you originally suggested - and good for you for wanting to clear it yourself too - again, you will learn a lot more by doing it that way. The good thing that will come from this is that you will come out of the other side with a far better and more complete grasp on how the household budgets work too.🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

kazyg12 said:Just adding an update to my debt free journey. Today I paid £500 off the credit card which now sits at 4,500. Ive worked a 55 hour week as it was half term so I should have another good wage coming in end of November. Instead of my husband helping me to pay it off I want to do it all myself as we have 0% interest for a year it gives me time to do this and still save to settle my loan. We received a refund for some tickets we bought so we are using this for Christmas presents. Thinks have been tough I think I have aged 10 years in the last few weeks. The guilt is easing, I wrote everything down to try and explain to my husband why I did what I did this massively helped. Keeping my head up and staying focused on the end goal 😊I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free Wannabe, Budgeting and Banking and Savings and Investment boards. Welcome to the diaries section and things will look completely different for you by next year. You just need to keep a handle on Christmas like all of us.
Good luck on getting the debt down and I look forward to cheering you on.

Hi
sorry it’s been a while since I posted, I’ve been working hard enjoying Christmas and working to get me threw the January blues! So little update my credit card debit now sits at 3,000 I did a little extra this month to get it down but have been doing 500 since October. This is a good amount for me and my budget. My husband and I have been doing a regular monthly budget which helps me out and I have £175 in a NatWest saving account. My loan is still paying off the monthly amount and when the credit card is done I will save the same amounts each month and hope to pay off the sum by October this year so I will be debt free by October. What a journey it’s been. My husband has struggled lately with anxiety he’s always been a worrier and I panicked that the trauma of my debt had bought it on. He assures me it hasn’t he’s so proud of what I’ve achieved in such a short time on a part time wage. We are going to Dublin in March for the weekend enjoying some quality time together without the kids so we both have something to look forward too.Hope everyone is well and is having a positive debt free 2022 😊1
