Can I Move the Free Tax Renewal Date?

Really don't understand the issue here...
I simply want to move the month I have to do it.
Yes, I realise "it takes seconds to do" but if there's an opportunity to move it to a month later, that would suit me better. I don't really care if other people wouldn't mind doing it at that time of year or how to "set a reminder on my phone". Perhaps next time, I will be explicit in my aim.
Seems everyone else has made the mountain because in their opinion what I want to do is unreasonable. But that isn't really helpful as it doesn't answer the question that was asked. While providing an alternate solution is great, if I wasn't that bothered by it, I wouldn't have posted the question.

Not sure there is a lot of leeway? Tax 6 months, SORN or reminder.1

You absolutely can do what you want. You just have to renew once in December, then do it again in February. You'll get a warning that you'll lose the months you've already paid for but it will bring your renewal back to the end of January.anotheruser said:Really don't understand the issue here...

That's pretty much it. The ONLY way the OP can move it one month is to SORN on or before 1st Jan 22 and then tax on or after 1st Feb 22. (Bearing in mind that the car must remain off the road for the whole of January).half_empty said:Not sure there is a lot of leeway? Tax 6 months, SORN or reminder.
Edit: I forgot about taxing early then taxing again. Normally that would cost money, but for a £0 rated vehicle it's maybe not an issue.Jenni x0 -
In my experience it's not worth the bother, I once bought 6 months instead of 12 because I had two cars with tax due in the same month, I then replaced one of the cars and ended up with two cars due in the same month again. I've not bothered trying to be clever since then, besides out of the four cars in our household two of them are free and one is £30 so it's no big deal.

It's a discussion forum. People can put forward other suggestions or points of view if they want, you don't get editorial control over the responses. And often the answers assist the questioner to see things from a different point of view - I don't think anyone is being hostile here, just probing what the actual difficulty is.anotheruser said:

I think suggestions have been put forward as to how you can achieve the change that you desire - altering the VED renewal month away from Christmas - are any of those outcomes possible for you to adopt?anotheruser said:Really don't understand the issue here...

Is this how the forum is these days?- Pay early, but lose the overlap
- SORN then re-tax
- Change RK
- Direct debit payments - so avoid the need to "do" anything annually.
I don't see the questions about "why?" as being hostile, but trying to understand the rationale as that sometimes helps people to suggest solutions.
