Moving house can I take my fixed good deal with me?
My parent is in the process of moving out and will come and live with me for a while. He fixed with Octopus a few months back on a 2 year deal at ~9p Kwh. I'm with Symbio who has now transferred me over to EON Next. Can he bring his energy deal with him? I assume it will be ok but ideally I'd like to take over the direct debits from my bank. Anyone done this recently?

Hi,his deal will end when he provides final readings, it will not be transferable.2

Why do you assume it would be OK? Existing deals can be transferred but not in the way that you are hoping.Jinglish said:My parent is in the process of moving out and will come and live with me for a while. 9p kWh are you sure haven’t seen that price in a long time? Sorry no he can’t, the new occupier won’t get it either1

What was the name of this Octopus tariff, and what supply region was it for? Do you live in the same supply region?, if not, which supply region are you in?
I too have no recollection of such a tariff on offer within the last few months, and presumably neither do all those who switched to Symbio (who have now gone bust) and their 12p-12.5p tariff (or even just under 11p as one poster said they secured).

Jinglish said:He fixed with Octopus a few months back on a 2 year deal at ~9p Kwh.Octopus have not had a 9p/kWh deal in the last two years, that could be the night rate on an E7 deal but certainly not the day rate, so do check exactly which tariff he is on and when it expires, the details will be on a recent bill.Your best bet is going to be to talk to Octopus but if you do that I would keep it as simple as possible and just have your parent tell them he is moving house to live with you and is taking over responsibility from you for the energy bills.Even then it may be a 'no' but can't hurt to ask...

If your parent living with you will be temporary, getting the energy supply contracts transferred to their name would then pose issues when they move out again.
I'd forget about trying to transfer anything personally.0 -
As the whole idea was based on an incorrect assumption then there would be nothing to gain anyway. You can't so you won't!0

If that's correct then go for it. In fact he can move into our house if he likes.

People have definitely sometimes been allowed to transfer their own tariff during a move but I think this is very much at the discretion of the energy company rather than a right.wittynamegoeshere said:If that's correct then go for it. In fact he can move into our house if he likes.0
