Have you had anyone in to test for a leak?

I have a combi too & it seems to use more gas to heat hot water than it does to run the central heating.  I do use a lot of gas as I have heating on all the time, thermostatically controlled obviously.  Currently on 23.5 deg, that's room temp not the thermostat.  I only use half their usage.  Are they using gas fires rather than the central heating?
Nope, they just have the heating on twice a day at most. Its actually freezing when i go over in the day. Hence it just doesn’t make sense to me!
  • No unfortunately readings have been sporadic, am addressing that now! Its not a dial meter.

Careful… if they report in units of 100 cubic feet, it is correct to multiply that by 2.83 to convert the reading to cubic metres.

You never multiply the the cubic feet by 100, you just give the reading from the meter down to the 100’s.
Sorry 10 was a typo. So to be more specific… yesteday’s reading was 7122 cubic feet. They seem to be using 2 cubic feet per day. So i understand to get the daily use the would multiply 2 by 2.83. Correct?

This was the partly the point of me asking you to check if the meter was counting up even when no gas was being used. If there is a leak it would show with this test.

Without a pilot light there should be zero gas use indicated. Out of curiosity I checked my own meter overnight and over an 8 hour period the indicate gas volume was identical, and this is right to the third decimal place that for me is one thousandth of a cubic meter. For context my meter is an almost exactly one year old smart meter.

Thanks - so just in case im being stupid… here’s a reading from last night at sunset. What i will ask my parents to do is take a reading before they sleep and a reading before they use the bathroom in the morning and see if its ticked over.

That will work provided they don't have the heating timed to come on before they get up in the morning?

I suspect that just does the volume conversion but not the conversion to kWh, but as posts above show I'm not the best to comment on meters that use cubic feet! I'm fairly sure I've only ever had meters that use cubic meters myself.

Something doesn't seem right. I have a 4 bed semi detached with a gas condensing boiler for hot water & heating with thermostat set at 20°.
My average yearly used is about 14,000.
I have my dial on boiler set to 3 and also on ECO as that heats the water when I use it. Previously before having it on ECO my boiler use to fire up all the time even when not in use ie during the night?
