Hi,why do you think you have misread the meter?Stick a photie up and somebody will check.Fixed price means that unit price and standing charge do not change, but monthly DD could, depending on usage.1

Fixed price is fixed for the price per kWh and for the daily standing charge. The amount you pay each month will vary according to your usage.Re the gas meter, if you use no gas then the meter index will not increase. If in doubt about the reading just post a photo on here...You can also refer to your IHD (the little display everyone tells you is useless) to check the meter index reading.1

No meter should show any consumption if no gas is being used, unless there's a leak. But if a leak were that bad you'd probably be able to smell it in the street (Covid permitting), assuming your home hadn't blown up. If the meter is not in or on your property (e.g. meter cupboards, meter rooms in a block of flats) then check that it really is your meter (switch off at the lever next to the meter and check your supply goes off) and check that the serial number on the meter appears on the bill. It's very unlikely that a bellows type mechanical meter would over read, but it's quite possible for a smart meter with a failing battery to do so. Look for a small b in the display after you've pressed a button. Batteries are more likely to fail when the weather is cold, so that may have something to do with it. @Matthaus73 had this problem and eventually won.2

thank you all
because my teen son took a reading 2-3wks ago and i took one yesterday and its saying i have used 250 unit approx of gas in 2wks so i ow them which i never do and its now only me and my son
he is a t school all day,im disabled water gas heated is on for max 2hrs a day have not used heating yet, tumble dryer max 2hrs last three weeks and gas hob minimum use not even an hr a week and real firei n lounge so no gas
just a little more information checked meter from last night and still the same numbers also have electricity but there dosent seem to be any huge usage like the gas so im blaming the gasUnit rate
Normal 18.832p per kWh
Standing charge
24.124p per day
Tariff ends on
12 months fixed term
will try not to usei t for another 24 hrs just to check again and if it stays the same would it make sense that we originally read the meter wrong??
thank you0 -

What you've quoted would still be a lot for two weeks though, so it will be interesting to see what your test shows.
Photos may help just rule out any possible confusion.0 -
250 unit (kWh) is about £10. (for gas)
Give us your sons and your readings please.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0
