The gov website chops & changes mixing up rules between different dates rather than having clear rules. You should be able to select a date and just get the rules for that date! Am I correct in saying that If i'm fully vaccinated, travel from the UK to Spain next week (after the 4th Oct) and return back to the UK a week later, then;
  1. I don't require any tests before and during a week trip - then require a return 2 day PCR test
  2. just show digital certificates
  3. fill in passenger locator forms

No pre-departure test needed to return to UK after 4 Oct but a Day 2 test after arrival is still required. Needs to be a PCR until "late October" and then a LFT after that.

Spain accepts the NHS vaccination certificate so you just have to upload a copy of yours to get an entry clearance QR code which the airline will need to see.

It's all quite simple if you follow the instructions. I'm now at Heathrow having checked in for a flight to Tenerife. It was a breeze for me but I could see other passengers struggling with having the correct paperwork.

Thanks - The last date mentioned in the text prior to suggesting you needing the 2 day test was 'until' the 4th!

    The key parts are

If you qualify as fully vaccinated you will have to:

    • book and pay for a day 2 COVID-19 test – to be taken after arrival in England
    • complete your passenger locator form – any time in the 48 hours before you arrive in England
    • take a COVID-19 test on or before day 2 after you arrive in England

Under the new rules, you will not need to:

    • take a pre-departure test
    • take a day 8 COVID-19 test
    • quarantine at home or in the place you are staying for 10 days after you arrive in England

day 2 test is not going away (any time soon), if may change to a lateral flow test in late October but until they confirm that date it will still be PCR
  • So - I agree with you all - it would have been simpler and less confusing if they didn't mix the dates & rules on the same page!

I don't get the reason for the 2 day test anyway. Surely, the biggest risk is during the flight, so If you catch Covid during the flight would it show up on a test just after the plane lands?

No point in trying to understand the rules. We've just got to follow them.

Is that all the UK? I am sure I read that Scotland are not adopting the pre-departure test for arriving into Scotland, mad as that be.
