Well done on the budgeting with cash. It does make it easier to see what you really have. Cards are just to easy to spend on!!

Now I am more in control of my finances, can I also be more controlled with my diet? The money I save could go towards first paying off the credit card, then I could put towards an emergency fund, of course being healthy does not mean necessarily living cheaply. Also healthy is a strong word, I could make small changes like today I have £2.50 put aside for a sweet treat - but that is too much, Instead I will use what I have in which is sesame snaps for a sweet fix, they are also nutritious. But I want to do this, then I want to put the £2.50 to deduct from my credit card debt this is 0.5% reduction and if I do the same tomorrow, that will be 1% reduction of debt. I will wait until the end of the day before moving the £2.50 over off the CC. That is my one mission for today - No Spend - No Sweets - Knock off CC Debt - Go Me!

Morning hotdog, do you do a menu plan for the week? If you can then it will help you to plan in those 'treats' as well as meals so that you are more likely to stick to what you already have in the house rather than spending extra. Although, of course its always possible your like me and suddenly decide you 'need' that bar of chocolate!!
    HAve a good day

Thanks Flowers, However in the past when I have planned for the whole week, I find I do not really stick to it. Before I would shop in sainsburys online, plan the week then end up throwing away stuff and eating a take out. Of course knowing what all of that costs, and that fact that I cannot really afford - budget the take out should change things. I may try a shop online again using cash see how I go. Thanks. I'll report back.

Plan for this morning seems to have come through, I ate 2X sesame snap no biscuits, I will make the transfer off the Credit Card debt later. Tomorrow same plan of action for food. Now I am going to carefully plan an online shop. O.A.O
Meal planning definetly works for me, as 1. i hate throwing away good food and 2. at least we have something in ready to cook and i dont have to think what Im going to do! and 3. it defiently works out cheaper for us if i plan the meals

Hi Hotdog, I think cancelling the treadmill is probably a good idea (not least because it removes a link that your Mum could hold over you) - but that doesn't mean you have to give up on exercise altogether. Just going for a walk round the block before or after work will do wonders for getting you into the habit and building up some motivation. I also think it might be worth getting some advice from your GP about a sustainable weight loss option, as you may find that having something positive to focus on will also help with building up your self-confidence. You have so much to offer the world, don't give up on yourself x

Thanks South Coast for your kind words. I don't think my mum has a hold of me right now and she told me I could keep the money, but thank you - that doesn't mean she hasn't or that my step father hasn't or won't when offering to help sometimes there are strings. My mum said that she wants to help with redoing bathroom, do you then think it would be wiser to not accept? I was thinking of getting someone in myself to renovate the bathroom as opposed to re-doing it completely but then I thought I could use Mums help for the Kitchen. Mum says she wants to help each of her daughters financially as a gift towards the help and the trouble they have suffered with her spinal injury. I think she is genuine and I think I would like to accept the help.
What do your sister(s) think about the potential gift? If it's a genuine gift to each of you and you want to accept it, then do so, but if you think there might be an expectation of help in return then I would be wary and perhaps explain that you would like to stand on your own two feet more, or that you would rather they hung on to the money so that they could spend it getting the help they need. What you posted the other week about them turning a blind eye to you adding your own spends in with their grocery shopping, but on the flip side expecting help with washing and dressing sounded a bit controlling to me. If it were me (and feel free to ignore me, most people do!), I would try and avoid adding on any extras when you do the shopping, as then you're in a stronger position to say you don't want to do x, y and z, as you're not taking anything from them and not giving anything back either

Hi hotdog, don't feel bad about your mum giving you money to help shower her, as you said it would be a lot more if she got someone in to do it. I sometimes help my grandad with gardening and chores and he always gives a bit of money to do it otherwise he would have to pay a lot more for someone else. Also, good luck with your journey 🙂

C'mon HotDog, you can do it!!!

On the air con.... random suggestion, but I've heard that putting a bottle of frozen water in front of a fan is really good for cooling a room down. Might be worth trialling before you spend thousands on fixing an issue you only have for a few weeks of the year?
