Why are people scrambling for petrol?

Penelopa.Pitstop said:In my area (East Surrey), most stations have no fuel or there's a queue. Not sure how long are the queues, because they cause traffic queues, so I don't even go there to check. Yesterday, I passed 4 empty petrol stations and then turned around before long queue in East Grinstead. Today had to go on back roads, to avoid queues around petrol stations.
So, unless I go at some unsociable hour, I don't think, I will be able to top up petrol. And my friend in Reading says her local petrol station at supermarket is open and there are no queues.
I wonder if there's any correlation between fuel supplies and political stance in various regions.I guess we'll find out at some point.

The Tories punishing certain areas, that's what you're suggesting?
If that were the case, Scotland would have zero fuel, but we're actually all laughing at England scrapping.2 -

It's so bad people have got used to doing the opposite to what the government tells them to, after a million lies and some terrible COVID advice.
I beg to differ.Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.0 -

I actually don't think the Government are clever enough to think up something like that and, almost certainly, would not be able to manage the logistics chain to achieve that outcome even if they wanted to. FWIW, if the other lot were in charge, I don't think they could manage this type of outcome either.1 -

The Tories don't have any control over where fuel goes.
I was thinking more in terms of how people consider others and react to misinformation. The people causing the fuel shortages certainly weren't thinking of other people when they queued for an hour to brim the tank up with another £5 of fuel.

Some of those that have been interviewed are just clueless - one woman said she got into a queue because other people were queueing. Others are just plain selfish.1 -
