Avro Energy - What happens to direct debit payments taken after they ceased trading?

Obviously Avro ceased trading on 22nd September, I've just had direct debit taken out for Avro today, the 28th. Where does that money go?
I had a small debit balance on my last statement in September. Does the DD go to Avro, the administrator, to the new eventual supplier, or does it just disappear in to the ether?  :#

Thank you for any advice.

  • It's only the 24th today!

You will pay for energy used up to when the SOLR takes over supply - that hasn't been announced yet. There will be a final bill issued by the administrators and any funds will be used to settle that (if there aren't any they'll send you a  bill) with any surplus sent on to the SOLR. So you don't have to worry, but obviously keep records of what has happened.

So what tariff is applied between bust and SOLR taking over?

Usually the SOLR takeover tariff from the date the first company went under.  So when Green Network Energy fell over earlier this year and EDF were appointed, the final bill from GNE (which I received on June 17th) was worked out at GNE rates up until Jan 30th and EDF's temporary tariffs from Jab 31st onwards.

Avro have just today (05 Oct) taken my normal monthly amount when they've ceased trading and this is not when the monthly DD goes out.

We were encouraged not to cancel our DD's to ease the switch to the designated new supplier, in this case Octopus.

If this new DD is really to Octopus, it still says Avro.  So, any ideas....?

It seems likely it would be Octopus taking a first payment, although setting up a new DD date without informing you first would not be good of them,

Ditto. I tried cancelling my DD with Avro but didn't do it in time, so the DD was still taken and with Avro's name on it. Waiting to see whether it'll be credited to my Octopus or Avro account.

oliverbrown - I'm inclined to agree with you that it's really Octopus that's taken this usual amount/wrong time DD.  But damned bad form (if so) to do it in the name of a bust company and even worse to take it  far earlier than normal when many people are struggling with bills.  Plus, given our Avro fix is now toast, and the new variable tariff from Octopus is likely to sky-rocket our energy costs, I had at least expected a 'Hi, this is your new rate, DD calculation & timing' email.

Probably breaks the terms of the DD Guarantee and so we could demand a refund if feeling peeved enough.  But for a provider people say is great to deal with, this is bloody awful start.

I don't think they can change who it goes to, AFAIK all they can do is ask the administrators to hand the money over.
I guess they'll migrate everyone over time, it just means they can get some cash in now without having to do all that admin.

I suspect that they need the cashflow pretty sharpish as we're getting our gas subsidized....

Close to impossible for Octopus to have done this, they have only just got access to the staff and systems and they have certainly not transferred the DD yet or it would have their name on it.
A lot of you are taking the term 'ceased trading' far too literally...
The company has gone into administration and is currently being run by the administrators and while they have limits on what they can do, collecting money from customers is certainly allowed, but depending on the date and the state of the customers account, they will have to pass on all or part of that money to Octopus.
