My Nectar Prices

  • I have shopped at Sainsburys since 1984 i.e. for 37 years.   But despite being such a loyal customer, I am unable to access this new scheme as I can no longer shop instore - my husband is terminally ill and we are shielding, so we shop online for a weekly home delivery.  Last year, we made a late night visit to Sainsburys when it was very quiet to take advantage of the double up promotion, using the SmartShop handset.  This not an option for us on a weekly basis, and we are disappointed and upset that Sainsburys is discriminating against people like us.
  •  Or to mention it’s at the detriment of now no double up I’m boycotting them

worst possible customer service with Nectar.  I mean - ring them up, they're lovely and will happily promise the world but nothing gets sorted.  I've asked them twice to post me the offers as they do my OH.  And apparently that's no problem whatsoever but nothing ever comes.  I can't use the vouchers the OH is sent as that is for the OH's card not mine, even though it's the same account.

Tesco Clubcard is the only scheme that seems to work well these days.

I do use Smartshop on my visits to Sainsburys and have the app on my phone but gave up on their offers long ago. They were for occasional YS buys or when I'd needed something that Aldi couldn't provide. Samphire and cauliflower (when Aldis were manky one time) are examples.

Being accosted last week I looked into it but it's just the same thing really so pretty pointless.

I agree about the poor WiFi. One time I had to go and stand next to the wall adjacent to Costa to pick up their signal.

Last week's trip was a trial. I used Smartshop but it wouldn't accept my card for payment. It said I'd put it in the wrong way around (which of course I hadn't). It's happened before because the card machines are ancient ones, recycled from checkouts they removed.

I had to go to the much reduced Customer Service desk and they had to scan my shop all over again. It caused a queue because the 2 guys on the desk are trying to deal with Customer Service, cigarettes and lottery all on one counter plus signing in visitors and contractors.

Sainsburys are going to hell in a handcart. I only go there for really good offers (25% off wine) or for the ever decreasing number of things Aldi doesn't stock.

I do hope Sainsburys read threads like this. I never understand posters who use those daft names like Sainsbobs and Mr T. I want them to pick up on the posts, complimentary or otherwise.

"Insanesburys" was our favourite for a while...

The Smartshop wands can scan the barcodes on the back of the Nectar cards - much easier than messing about with the card readers, at least in ours you just tap a wand screen and it unlatches...

Yes, that's the way it works in my store too. No problem with scanning the Nectar card. It was my credit card that was allegedly upside down! 🤣
  • Just to clarify (as the communication from Sainsbury's was confusing and a couple of posts imply people haven't realised this) - although you need the app to see the offers in the first place, you can use the SmartShop handset/wand to do your shopping and still get the offers.  The key point is that they are only applied by the SmartShop tills, not the normal or self-checkout ones.
  • I was somewhat surprised that the comment about the cancellation of Double Up was not its own news story in your newsletter, rather than a paragraph in the Nectar Prices article. My wife found out from browsing the news online and then we went back to your newsletter to find it hidden in the detail.

I have been a regular shopper at Sainsbury's targeting the weekly additional points available from the Nectar app. This is in addition to my main shop with Lidl, using the Lidl Plus app where £12 per month off a £200 spend has been a nice benefit.

It is disgusting that only now is the cancellation of this scheme being leaked through the press, and this morning we still found nothing official on the Nectar or Sainsbury's websites. Many of us have been spending all year in anticipation of getting the Double Up bonus, before Christmas.

It would have been much better practice to have confirmed the cancellation of the Double Up scheme much earlier in the year.
I feel as though we have been led on to believe that the Double Up promotion was taking place as usual. If we had known we would not have spent as much at Sainsbury's this year.

Regards the decreasing use of the Double Up promotion, could that have been something due to the further complications of needing an app to take full advantage, which automatically alienates those without smartphones ? The bottom line is probably that it was too costly to give the discount, complex to administer and the technical problems experienced last year and growing disillusionment of customers.

As for the Nectar Prices, it's all very well but Iphone users must have a minimum of IOS 13 to take advantage.  Once again alienating those who don't have the latest tech updates.

So at those stores which don't have their own SmartShop tills and any users of SmartShop have to use the regular Self-Service tills they won't see the discounts?

My local Sainsburys doesn't have the handsets available (which are so much easier to use that an app on a phone), nor does it have much in the way of a mobile signal (so much so that I have to ensure I've opened up the Nectar app outside to remind me what products I've got bonus points on).

So far I'm getting the points offers, but if they disappear to leave only the "Nectar Prices" which require lots of hoops to be jumped through then I will reduce my shopping at Sainsburys, a brief glance of the products in my "Nectar Prices" and there are a couple which I might buy but even at the reduced Nectar Price, it is cheaper elsewhere.

Saved £4,30 on my shop today with Nectar Prices. Also collected over 500 Nectar points, which will be tripled as I have now signed up with Sainsbury Energy (received their 12000 bonus points within 48 hours of starting my contract). One hapoy customer here.
