Very constructive. So what's your proposal?Jakbo said:

Whether or not climate change is man-made (and I consider the evidence that the acceleration of warming is man-made, to be overwhelming), we have to deal with the consequences. Adding to warming by burning fossil fuels isn't sensible and even if you're a sceptic, there's the air quality matter to contend with as well.DeletedUser said:
Or we could bin the green garbage and use cheaper fuels that we have in abundance. There are plenty of respected scientists who say "climate change" is not man made in the slightest and there's nothing we can do about it. You just don't hear about them because it doesn't suit the agenda. The green lobbies are extremely powerful and there is a lot of money to be made in various sectors by people and governments who push the green agenda..Aylesbury_Duck said:It might not be a popular view, but with all the news about the very real effects of climate change, and what will happen as we race towards more global warming, isn't it right that a finite resource of something that is doing incredible long-term damage, is expensive? Instead of wasting money on expensive electric cars, that money could be spent on insulating homes, something that would directly benefit everyone.
We could be investing in nuclear energy, instead of wind farms.
It would be great to find more energy efficient ways of living, but I don't think the current green agenda is the right way to go.
I agree that insulating homes and commercial property is probably more useful than electric vehicles. When it comes to vehicles, we need to reduce our vehicular travel, no matter what the fuel used, whereas we can't similarly reduce our need for living space. Nuclear energy and wind farms are needed. Why are they mutually exclusive?0

I’m slightly less panicked as the flexible rate with price cap isn’t quite as bad as the fixed rates available. If they are still available when I get the chance to switch.0

You don’t need air con in this country or any I lived in India in 50 degrees without air con you certainly don’t need it here 🤣KenUsername said:One of the causes of this energy price increase that is being used it that due to climate change and the hot summer we’ve just had, properties and buildings used more energy cooling down using air conditioning etc. So insulating isn’t the whole answer I’m afraid.
Staying cool is just as bad as warming up in energy consumption it seems.1

I know, I don't have it, rich people have it.worrywart_3 said:

            It would be a start.0

Hmm, so how does that work? Slap an extra tax on the electricity their A/C uses? Or charge a flat annual fee for using one like a TV licence?Deleted_User said:So perhaps we should be slapping a big tax on air conditioning0

In general cooling is needed for computer hardware, not people. The demand for energy for cooling isn't really affected by the temperature outside.

I have both solar panels and air conditioning. In the year since having both there is an exact correlation between the solar putting out abundant energy and the air conditioning being used.
Maybe we just mandate or somehow encourage solar being installed with AC rather than hate on it?0

I'm not sure the use of air conditioning is particularly high on the list of reasons why....0
