                    Hi
I was paying £156 a month to Avro Energy, which over the year covered our energy usage without any extra payments being required and sometimes left me £100 or £200 in credit. Now as they’ve gone bust, the cheapest fixed contract is being quoted online at £220, ( some were close to £300 ).
By the time Ofgen have moved me and I can organise a switch away from whoever they put me with I’m guessing that £220 quote will have risen again.
Im listening to TV and Radio experts tell us how customers may face increases of up to 12% or 15%…… My rise of £156 up-to £220 is no where near this %rise. It’s going to cripple me and I’m guessing many others.
2 years ago I was paying £116 a month to Avro and that covered our usage, our usage if anything, has gone down since then.

It’s almost criminal what’s happening and I’m listening to MPs say they are not going to help the suppliers but they are looking after the customers instead?
Is anyone else facing similar rises? It’s actually causing me sleepless nights.

The variable rate with the cap is likely to be lower than the fixed rates you're looking at so I think you may be worrying unnecessarily by applying rises upon rises that aren't relevant.
You can check the capped prices here which should be the maximum you will pay until April unless you choose a fixed tariff at higher rate.

KenYou're not alone mate, with Avro I was paying £96pm and untill yesterday they had a renewel on their site for £124 pm, and the cheapest I could find anywhere else was £145pm with some as high as £180pm (yes British Gas I'm looking at you), but as my deal with Avro only ran till 7th October and I didn't want to risk ending up on an expensive tariff, running up a bill and even wehen ic ould switch prices will ahve gone up again not least because of teh cap rise next month, so last night I started a switch to Scottish Power - £145pm but three fixed deal, and no exit fees if prices do drop, and £150 TopCashBack, burt even so my monthly bill has gone up £49 which is closer to a 50% rise. than 12 or 15%, and could have been even worse if I'd waited. - I'm on a very tight budget and with this and the Council Tax rise taking more than a third of my monthly income, it's going to be a struggle.1

The 12 - 15% rise you hear is the increase on OFGEM's price cap which comes into effect on 1 October. But if you were on a fixed price contract taken out in 2020 the increase to the price cap is about 50%. If you look at the fixed deals now on offer, which are more than the price cap the increase is about 80 or 90%. That is because the price cap is likely to go up again in April 2022.2

I did see a variable rate quote of £188 a month, still quite an increase from £156 also as the prices are rising by the day I was under the impression a fixed rate is a little “safer” in the long term.jimjames said:The variable rate with the cap is likely to be lower than the fixed rates you're looking at so I think you may be worrying unnecessarily by applying rises upon rises that aren't relevant.

Was paying £95 with Avro when I first moved to them from Bulb which I was very happy about then I renewed with Avro at £140 a month (usage is high) which I wasn't happy about but is what it is, don't know what I'll have to pay now with new Solr but nothing I can do (or any of us I guess?) I'm thinking accept whatever tariff I'm put on and move suppliers when the dust settles.

It might not be a popular view, but with all the news about the very real effects of climate change, and what will happen as we race towards more global warming, isn't it right that a finite resource of something that is doing incredible long-term damage, is expensive? We need to find more energy-efficient ways of living. It will be painful, but what's the alternative? Cheap energy for all, and leave it for someone else to deal with the consequences?

Here's one - Rather than pumping £millions in to propping up these energy companies, spend the money on insulating Britain's homes and improve the lives of the many rather than lining the pockets of a few.Aylesbury_Duck said: We need to find more energy-efficient ways of living. Any language construct that forces such insanity in this case should be abandoned without regrets. –

I agree entirely with mass insulation projects, but just in the last week there doesn't seem to be any appetite for the message those protesting on the motorways are sending. We seem to be a country of people looking for a magical solution that involves no cost or disruption to our quality of life.FreeBear said:

I was on £62pm with Avro and have been seeing quotes of more than double with other suppliers.Single person household. My elderly parents have health conditions that make them feel cold, they run their heating all the time, they rack up high bills as it is so ive no idea how they're going to cope.2
