How to prove non-dependent has zero income

Hi,

My parents are on Pension Credit and have received a letter from the council wanting to know updated details regarding my income as the non-dependant.

There has no change circumstances since the last time they've asked. I have not been in worked and have not signed on benefits as I feel too anxious to go through with the process.
I have been living off withdrawned cash savings from the time I have worked for 15 years so have a buffer. Never been on holiday in my life, very little discretionary spending.

I have looked at the guidelines regarding assessing non-dependent income.

Verification of gross weekly income

It is not intended that you find out and verify the non-dependant’s earnings in all cases. LAs
can either
• quote the thresholds and ask for details when the non-dependant is in remunerative work,
or
• ask a general question, such as Tell us in each case the normal weekly income, before
stoppages, if you can – you may get more benefit if this is very low

The claimant is responsible for providing the relevant information. If no, or inadequate,
information about the non-dependant’s gross income is provided, the highest deduction should
only be made after considering all the available relevant facts and evidence.
Commissioner’s decision CH48/2006

I do not want to burden my parents with this possibility. I have nothing to hide as I have nothing coming in from remunerative work. However, thinking of writing a letter to them but don't know how I can prove this to them as it is hard to prove a negative.

If anyone has any experience dealing with this issue. Please can you advise or have suggestions on how to prove no income. Thank you for reading.

Closed a long time ago. Whenever I was paid, I withdrew all the cash.

With no bank account then i'm unsure how exactly you'll be able to prove you have no income.

I was thinking of requesting National Insurance statement for the period they want. Just not sure if they'll accept.

So how are you meeting your living expenses? That is something they will likely ask, once you tell them you have no income and no bank accounts.

I do have some cash withdrawn from working for 15 years. I am merely existing, no friends, no eating out etc. The same routine, food everyday. The cash will last for sometime.
  • So the bank account you withdrew the cash from that you are currently living off…I assume you still have this account? A current bank statement showing the last withdrawal and explaining that you live off this capital, with a signed statement that you are not working, should suffice for the correct deduction to be applied.

I no longer have this account, I regret closing it now
