Surely the 5p/15p Octopus Go / Go Faster tariffs can't be sustainable in the near future?

I've no idea if this is a temporary issue with octopus go but I've just switched to it from M&S energy(octopus) and my quote was 15.33p for the day rate. Looking at my account now it's showing dynamic day rate of 23.76p.
Well looks like I might be staying on the Variable tariff, unless I can convince Octopus Customer services that they offered me ~15p when I signed up to switch 10 days ago and so that's what they've got to offer.
Although it also looks like Go Faster is still the lower rate? Could you @potts8 ask to switch to that instead?
That was my plan to move to the go faster tariff but apparently you need to wait 30 days on the GO tariff before you can "GO faster"
I switched directly to Go Faster (without passing Go), but I don't think it is the case you need to be on Go for 30 days before you can move to Go Faster. The 30 day policy is for switches between Go (Faster) and non-smart tariffs and between Agile and Go.

I was meaning a temporary rate showing in my account(as it warns you may be on a temp tariff) before it switched to the 15p I was quoted for GO.
The hike certainly isn't unexpected however I woul expect a live quote to be correct seconds before clicking the confirm button for the switch.
It will tell you your tariff name in your online account. If this is listed as Go, then you are not on a temp tariff.
  • You sure it’s not the standing charge as that’s my standing charge but unit rate is 15/5
  • What’s the difference between go/go faster

On my account it states: Octopus Go September 2021 v1.

When checking Tariffs: https://octopus.energy/tariffs/ it shows the Go September 2021 v1 tariff as the replacement for May 2021 which was the 15/5 rates. The issue seems to be that Octopus are switching customers to the new tariff but showing them quotes for the old May tariff.

I'll need to call them tomorrow to question why but I also have it showing me going on the Octopus 24M Fixed from the 09/10 so no idea why that's there.

Yes worrywart_3, 25p is the standing charge, so you got in before the price rise.
The difference between Go and Go Faster is the timing, duration and price of the off peak rate. There are multiple versions of Go Faster, each with a different start time and duration, starting from as early as 8:30pm and ending as late as 6:30am, for 3, 4 or 5 hours.

Edit: I suggest you hide some of the personal information in those screenshots, and charge your phone!

Looks a bit bad if they have just brought out this new tariff today (or yesterday) and they haven't warned customers who had previously signed up that they were being put on it rather than the prevailing rate at the time they enquired.

@potts8, I have a feeling they put you on a standard tariff to start with until they can establish connection with your smart meter and get the 30 minute readings, then send you an invite to switch to the Go tariff. I could be wrong though as I haven't switched to Octopus. I was very tempted with the Go & Go Faster tariffs but bottled out in favour of the certainty of a 2 year fix with EDF Go Electric. If the day rate has jumped from 15p to 26.p for my region then unless it drops significantly for year 2, I made the right decision to go with EDF.

Yes this is the process, but it doesn't normally show Go as the current tariff until you are actually on it.

Exactly, it's not the fact they've raised the rates that I have an issue with, it's the fact that a quote for GO before I switched and even right now still shows the May 2021 rate and not the September one they have put me on. If it showed the September rates I wouldn't have bothered switching to it.

I also have no idea why it states I'm going on a fixed from 09/10.

Not entirely unexpectedly if you've been following the news, the non-cheap prices for Go and Go Faster have increased this afternoon. These are fixed tariffs, so if you're already on the tariff your price won't go up for the remainder of your contract.
The cheap price is the same as it was, while the non-cheap price is the same as the rate you'd be if you were on their fixed tariff, so you still save quite a bit compared with the standard fixed tariffs.
The new day price in each region is (including VAT):
    A: 24.255 (Eastern England)
    B: 23.772 (East Midlands)
    C: 23.7615 (London)
D: 25.872 (Merseyside and Northern Wales)
    E: 24.2235 (West Midlands)
    F: 23.394 (North Eastern England)
    G: 23.7195 (North Western England)
    H: 24.1395 (Southern England)
    J: 24.801 (South Eastern England)
    K: 24.4545 (Southern Wales)
    L: 25.0845 (South Western England)
    M: 23.415 (Yorkshire)
    N: 24.318 (Southern Scotland)
    P: 24.6855 (Northern Scotland)
