VAT extra add on

Hi
Does anyone know if it is ok to advertise a broadband package at a set price but not including VAT witch is then added on as an extra to the bill?
So I thought I was signing up for a basic broadband deal of £19.99 but when I checked my bill there was an added VAT charge. Should this not have been included in the advertised price of £19.99. I don't ever recall this being an issue with any other provider I have used over the years.

As far as I know , no residential provider should advertise pricing that is ‘ex vat’ as a regular consumer you cannot avoid it , so they should publish prices that include VAT, business accounts may be different.1

But otherwise prices usually include VAT for domestic purposes.Of course some providers do itemise their bills in strange ways, so that £19.99 is actually £23.99 net. Who is this provider of which you speak?2 -

Thank you for the replies, that is what I thought. I am just a residential user not business. I signed up with pop telecom for their cheapest tariff of £19.99 a month basic broadband and line rental and my second monthly bill (the first month was obviously higher because of extra days, postal cost of router etc) was £26.10 that included only one landline call of 29p call to them that I don't actually recall making. The rest was insurances I know nothing about and VAT (and yes the VAT was added onto the 19.99 as well).1

I take it's this product:
https://www.poptelecom.co.uk/product/18m-cheapest-unlimited-broadband-1750?affiliate=178
If they are advertising residential broadband services then it must be inclusive of VAT. Have you spoken to their CS team?
Also, are you sure VAT has been added on top or is it simply showing the VAT element but the total is still £19.99?1 -

The above doesn't make much sense. You say they've charged you 19.99+vat this month but from next month will charge you 19.99 incl vat? Or maybe the extra £4/m is by pure coincidence the extras which you signed up for and no longer need?
"Unless we expressly agree otherwise any and all Charges are inclusive of VAT."

If I place a dummy order/quote I see an option for a TP-Link VR400 router rented at £4 per month. That and your £19.99 comes to £23.99 per month.Have you done this per chance? The VR400 you can buy yourself outright for £52 at Amazon's current price, as it'll cost you £72 over an 18 month contract and you'd have to send it back at the end. (I have one of these as it happens, rock solid. DSL uptime currenly 225 days
