There are more errors in that article than I care to count, but the major ones:
    • nPower and E.ON have merged
    • OVO and SSE have merged, elevating OVO to the Big Six Five
    • their list of smaller suppliers contains several who are long gone

    Typical Heil article, then!
  • Do you have to keep your direct debit open in order to receive a credit refund once you have left or can they refund you via another method.
Leaving green soon and am in credit, problem is payment due to be taken 4 days after I switch and worried they will take it anyway despite leaving and blame it on an ‘administrative error’.

1 down. 3 to go. Hopefully Avro aren't one of the 3.

I have a gas meter replacement scheduled later this week. I understand Bulb contracted this out to Siemens. Will Siemens honour the appointment in this scenario or I have to wait to be assigned a new supplier and go through the process of requesting a new gas meter from them?

I've been with So and Zog for years. I'll be sorry to see them go.
The Irish state owned energy company ESB recently took a 75% stake in So, I doubt they're going anywhere.

So said on Twitter today, "Hi! Yes, we're fine. We just merged with the wonderful @ESBGroup so we're in a very stable position. We're going to keep on providing the best prices we can to our customers but if anyone's worries about their energy bills please get in touch with us."

I can only relate to Avro. They took a DD after I had switched. I cancelled the DD through my bank.
My credit transferred to my bank account by them using "the bank account details we hold". Presumably BACS?

If you're in the cooling off period there's no reason you can't cancel.
I'm more thinking about the likelihood of getting through to Avro...
I emailed Avro yesterday at 11.21am to cancel my switch and had a reply at 6.25pm to say it had been cancelled , but to cancel my direct debit as it had been set up.

ETA I've tried to switch to Octopus today and have had an email to say
Hello , We're sorry to say we're having a bit of trouble getting you switched over to us. We rely on a shared industry database to get all the information we need about your meter and property while switching your supply. It looks like some of the information stored in the database wasn't quite right, which has meant your move to us has been stopped.

It also could be that we've got the wrong postcode, your property is used for commercial purposes, or you've switched (or tried to switch) in the last 28 days.

We'd love to get your switch moving again, so please could you reply to this email confirming:
    1. Your full address (including postcode)
    2. Your property is domestic (not used for business)
    3. You've not switched or tried to switch in the last 28 days

And we'll get it sorted for you.

    Thank you very much.

    Love and power,
    The Octopus Energy team

The only thing I think it could be is that I switched fron green. On 15/09/21 and then cancelled the switch yesterday.

I Think I'm stuck with whoever takes on green.

I asked Neon Reef last week if they would supply me with electric for my 2 meters (legacy e10) they said they would but need to set up 2 accounts.  Today they’ve emailed saying they can’t take me on.  Make of that what you will.  Octopus have also gone very quiet on a quote, they responded to my initial email within an hour last Thursday asking for readings, and not heard back since despite chasing.  Chaos out there..

They can refund via bank transfer without a direct debit in place. Suppliers tend to prefer an active DD so that they can see the bank account has not been closed, and may opt to send a cheque if not.
You can always reclaim a payment taken in error under the direct debit guarantee. This can be done without cancelling the DD.
