Energy suppliers People's Energy and Utility Point have both ceased trading today, affecting more than half a million households. If you're with either firm, your energy supply will continue and credit balances are protected. But DON'T switch now – sit tight and wait until your new supplier has contacted you.

If the demise of the smaller companies continues in this way, it seems that we are likely to end up exclusively at the mercy of the major suppliers and their tariffs. Sadly, this seems to be an ever-growing possibility.Heaven help us !

I left Utility Point at the beginning of June and have been trying to get back my credit balance ever since. I have even lodged a complaint with the Ombudsman. As I am no longer a customer of Utility Point, is my credit balance still protected by the Ofgem guarantee?0

Your credit balance is fully protected; however, the SoLR will give priority to the customers that it takes over from the failed supplier. You may have a bit of a wait. Your Ombudsman complaint has now lapsed. The Ombudsman cannot adjudicate on matters relating to a company that no longer holds a Supply Licence.dizzyblonde1961 said:I left Utility Point at the beginning of June and have been trying to get back my credit balance ever since. Eversmart went belly up in Sep 2019 just after my daughter had left them. She eventually got her credit refund from the SoLR in May 2021 so don't hold your breath !

I am sure I was in credit but I do not have a statement and utility point website is down. How do I find out what my balance was? Will the new appointed provider know when they contact me?0

So what tariff will I pay between now and the new supplier being appointed? Will it be the existing tariff until today or the existing tariff until the new supplier is appointed? Also the attached is interesting and shows how electricity and gas prices have increased at a larger % in UK than rest of Europe https://westenglandbylines.co.uk/energy-prices-rise-after-uk-leaves-eu-energy-markets/?fbclid=IwAR0doeva9H3Gwmxfkdi3of0T6nsr0e8H_LepeQBKzy6KOAEJiyoSKa8HHr00

It only takes a couple of days for the SOLR to be appointed. From that date the new supplier's tariff will apply.jmfwilts said:So what tariff will I pay between now and the new supplier being appointed? 1.If when my new supplier is appointed I immediately switch to a cheaper one who is then responsible for paying my credit refund?
2.If I do not cancel my direct debit can Utility Point continue to take money from my account?0 -
I'm currently in the process of moving house, Utility Point supply the house I'm moving from. Anyone know how this will affect me getting my credit back?0
