I too am worried about the latest DD that Peoples energy took.  They ceased trading last Tuesday & have taken the DD on Monday 20th.  That feels a bit like fraud to me.  It isn't showing on my account either.  So that is almost £400 they owe me!!!!!!!!

I was with Utility Point and I have a balance in credit. They ceased trading 14/9 but I didn't realise until 15/9 - so that's when I checked my bank account. I was really surprised to see they took the monthly direct debit that day - 15/9 -- that's after they ceased trading. Can they do that ? I've cancelled the DD now.

But then - when the UP website came back up - I got my statement for September dated 16/9. Normally the monthly direct debit is on there and the balance calculated accordingly, but the 16/9 statement, which presumably is the one that will get sent over to EDF, is missing the direct debit taken on 15/9. Although the actual credit balance I know is protected, I'm afraid if that only works for the balance on the statement (rather than the correct balance - 1 payment more in credit than they show).  Am I ever going to get that payment back ?  And how ?

Also was I really unlucky my direct debit was so close to the date they ceased trading, or did Utility Point set it up to charge everyone the day after they went out of business?  Even if they did that surely, surely it should be explicitly on the account and the relevant statement - not  mysteriously hidden.

I'm really worried that latest payment looks like it slipped out of my bank account without showing up anywhere on my account.
DDs have to be requested three days in advance, so that explains the payment being taken in the first place. In my experience (not with this supplier) payments to energy companies can take a few days to be credited to your account, so this might be the perfectly simple and innocent explanation. What makes you think a statement from one random day, rather than a final statement of your account when all payments have been processed, is the one which will ultimately be sent to the SOLR?
  • I have a situation that I can’t see anyone discussing on here, so apologies if I missed it.
I did a switch away from Peoples Energy, which completed on 15th Sept. However I was waiting for my final bill to be raised and the credit on the account to be repaid (they said up to 21 days from switch completion).
Where does the responsibility for my credit now sit? Is it with British Gas, Peoples Energy, my new supplier (I can’t see how that would happen) or somewhere else?
My other concern is I now have been contacted to say I am a British Gas customer, so effectively I have two companies claiming to be my supplier right now.. this feels like it’s going to get messy! - how likely is it that I will be billed by both BG and Shell (my other supplier) for energy?

Welcome to the forum.  You can use these links to find out who is really supplying you.
Note that for electricity it's a two-stage process: find out who is your DNO, then look on their website to find out who is your supplier.
  • So basically, I have only just switched to Utility Point, as my fixed deal from previous company was ending.

I am now in a position where I have lost the fixed price I locked in at but now they have gone under, I am stuck. I am waiting hear off EDF and cannot arrange another fixed tariff with any one so will be stuck with whatever variable rate they set which will go up on 1st October? Two weeks ago I was paying 14.737p per kWh elec and 2.357p per kWh for gas. I’ve looked on EDF and they have a fixed rate (which I can’t get) of 25.09p elec and 5.39p gas so who knows what the variable rate will be - this is ridiculous

Does the SOLR tariff have to be within the price cap?

This is the key £100s question as no switch tariffs are available anywhere near the price cap.
    I think....

British Gas but expect the refund to take several months as they inherit the records from People's Energy but naturally concentrate on current customers, not those who had already left

The Ofgem rules state it doesn't have to be

However EDF are putting UP customers on their SVR which has the Ofgem price cap

So, for example, after the 12% price cap increase next month my EDF rate for gas should be around 4.5p per kwh

Thanks, that is what I expected.. and I expected the timeline too, but I am quite good at being annoying enough that people speed processes up where possible!
