    2) i was tied in for another year which is actually good news as i've just had an ASHP installed so realyl want a gas tariff with no standing charge now.  what is the best tariff to look for for an ASHP with very little gas used in the prop?

  • I had no intention to wait for months, EDF just kept delaying and delaying, and making soothing statements like "we guarantee that you will pay less than with your previous supplier." They are still delaying, sending ever higher bills, and asking if I want a payment plan. I'd dearly like to present my case to Ofgem, but EDF is delaying even that -- I've requested a Deadlock Letter repeatedly. I'm happy I had the sense to cancel my direct debit immediately; not switching immediately has been a disaster.

It's not Ofgem, it's the Ombudsman that you would need.  If it's been more than eight weeks since you raised your complaint you can go to the Ombudsman right now regardless of whether they've sent a deadlock letter.
  • I just had the experience of posting a reply to MSE__Andrew, and having my post deleted, with the comment that "you have to be around for a little longer before you can post a link." Then my reply to the post above from spot1034 was deleted too. I had not expected to be censored on MSE for posting my experiences with EDF, or any other information. What is going on??

Your post wasn't deleted, it was never posted in the first place. Type it again without the link and it will post.

Your reply to spot1034 is there, too, and has been quoted in full by Gerry1.

Just a comment on the universal advice to "wait before switching, don't do anything now."  I was in exactly the same position earlier this year, I followed the same advice, and I found myself with a huge, exorbitant bill from EDF six months later. The small supplier I was with charged £62 monthly, but EDF chose to charge me £102 monthly. And because I followed the common advice to "wait before switching," I now have a bill for £611.76. Better advice for the people affected would be "Flee! Switch while you can! Do it today! And cancel your Direct Debit!"
Was your small supplier GNE ?  Not so small by the way  with 350,000 customers. Edf honoured their promise and I ended up on Welcome 5. My DD went up because my consumption went up - home more, no hols and a miserable long winter.

What was your consumption with the small supplier and with Edf ?
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill
  • Still no announcement about who is to be the SOLR to Peoples Energy customers. Utility Point went out of business on the same day yet their SOLR was appointed yesterday. Similar announcements have been made over the weekend before so that is not the reason for the delay.

The FT are now suggesting that a special administrator might be appointed to run a  failed supplier if a SOLR cannot be found.

Could be as simple as no other company wants the solr customers, hence the delay.  If so, then ofgem  will force it on one of them , as they can, but like with most things, it’s best if it happens voluntarily rather than compulsory

I was thinking the same thing about the delay here, but I'm seeing it as a positive for 2 reasons

    1) The longer it takes, the longer we can reasonably argue that the existing (very very cheap) PE tariff applies. I'm at the point of taking daily meter readings so I can keep a live view of my balance.

    2) If there's no SOLR, then less chance that my switch out to Sainsbury will be blocked.

So I'm happy to sit tight...

  • Oh no I have only just switched to Utility Point. First day of supplying was just 2 days ago - 18 September which is after they have gone under :( My first direct debit has come out of my bank today of £311 - where will this leave me?
