Growing up across the pond, snow started early to mid-November and lasted until early to mid-April. I'm amazed that here I can wear the same light overcoat for most of the year, autumn thru winter and into spring. I have little need for a winter coat, which didn't even see the light of day this year!
4 YEARS 10 MONTHS DEBT FREE!!! (24 OCT 2016)(With heartfelt thanks to those who have gone before us & their indubitable generosity.)...and now I have a mortgage! (23 AUG 2021)Original End Date - Sept 2041 New projection - Dec 2039 (reduced by 21 months)5 -
I am also someone who is studiously not looking at the fall in my investments - not sure what looking at it would gain.
I’m always jealous of people who state they can retire in X years - I just haven’t got that depth of calculation going on. I’m saving what I can and seeing what happens, although I don’t want to retire or at least have to work past 55. DH is older than me, but doesn’t seem to ever want to fully leave for “something to do”, but also as he has expensive tastes. Maybe we offset each other to meet in the middle!I’m not sure if I will have enough by 55 at the moment, but at least my mortgage should be paid off by then…

It does make a real difference knowing that you CAN retire even if you are not ready to. It is very similar to the "my mortgage is gone" feeling. Both things set you free & the only way then is up. Many, many years on & I still picture myself doing a Mel Gibson & yelling Freedom.

Well I do know I don’t have enough to retire right now… too many variables to calculate the rest.

Pet insurance renewals 🤢
Insurer: We're going to charge you 20% more this year because y'know, your pets are older and that.Me: Nah. {Tootles to insurer's website where I take out new cover that exactly mirrors the existing cover for 7% more, with £80 cashback to come that will mean -17% YoY cost if it pays out} 😜
I am done being ripped off for products that I haven't used and only exist to cover emergencies!9 -
Well done Ed - I'd have said something harsher than Nah! - not being ripped off is a great feeling!

This is exactly why I started my PB fund. The animals were getting older and even though I could do the shopping around the list of exclusions was getting longer and when I saw the limits on pay outs I just gave up with the animal insurance. Of course I am live to regret the gamble
Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became
In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!6 -
I’ve done the same as Watty. Animals have savings accounts.

I've done that too, it worked out disastrously, my cats are dafties

I have both insurance and animal savings accounts. My cats are also dafties (well, one of them is, but he gets into enough trouble for both put together)
