I agree with you. Plus I suspect you know your work environment and expectations better than your sibling 😊edinburgher said:Mhhh... Sibling hasn't read application but thinks 5k words is mad. I thought that was ok for 9 largely discrete sections with minimal overlap

I agree with the others, not your sibling. Last time I sat on a panel there was a 10 page limit on applications (probably over 5000 words) - I remember one that came in was 26 pages! 😱 I did think that could rather do with some editing 😂😂
If they're going to ask for evidence of so many different things, they'll expect to be doing quite a bit of reading i reckon. Make it easy for them - use the criteria as headings and demonstrate exactly how you meet each one, don't make them dig around for it. Sounds like that's what you're doing anyway!
The few times I've sat on a job panel I've been surprised by the number of applicants it's been easy to dismiss - not following instructions for a start (eg the advert says 'please explain in no more than 100 words why you want this job' or whatever, and they just don't), or reusing a previous application without editing ('i am applying for the position of xx at *other company*) 🙄
So hopefully your well written, organised and clear application will stand out a mile Ed!8 -
When I used to write applications I would leave a little bit for them to ask me about in the examples I used, so that the interview would focus on the topics I wanted to discuss. To that extent, your sibling might be right about editing it down a bitSave £12k in 2025 #2 I saved £14,660.97 of £6000 or 244.35% of my target. The 2026 Save £12k in 2026 thread is here
OS Grocery Challenge in 2025 I finished the year at £2880.99/£3000 or 96.03% of my annual spend so I am sticking with a £3000 annual budget for 2026

My absolute pet hate is when they refer to a previous role in the present tense 🤦♀️!Cheery_Daff said:The few times I've sat on a job panel I've been surprised by the number of applicants it's been easy to dismiss - not following instructions for a start (eg the advert says 'please explain in no more than 100 words why you want this job' or whatever, and they just don't), or reusing a previous application without editing ('i am applying for the position of xx at *other company*) 🙄Mortgage start: £65,495 (March 2016)
