Decorative bark can attract tiny flies like fruit flies. Maybe consider horticultural grit to top dress the borders?Save £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £10,020.92 out of £6000 after September
OS Grocery Challenge in 2025 I am at £2234.63/£3000 or 74.49% of my annual spend so far (not going to be much of a Christmas at this rate as no spare after 9 months!

We've had bark since we moved in and only one summer with significant numbers of fruit flies. My issue with grit is that it's very heavy to work with and won't stop the horsetail coming up any more than the bark. Much easier to weed through bark than grit/gravel in my experience.7

Work is relatively calm today, workload down a bit and all bosses off
£6.05 OPed and £13+ made from Prolific, so far.
I notice that Morries have a "Christmas" type offer already (basically spend £60 for 3 weeks and get £15 of vouchers). While I realise that these sorts of offers are gimmicky, they're ok in my experience if you'd need to do the shopping anyway. I'm currently at £185 of points and vouchers towards the cost of Christmas, this would take me up to £200+, which would probably cover us for dinner for 7.8 -
A tiring day. Worked my usual hours, took DD1 to Guides, did 2 hours of overtime, £25+ on Prolific.
On the bright side, only one hour of overtime left for the week as I did a little extra last week. Long weekend coming up.7 -

They have been doing this for several years. In all this time they have identified perhaps 2-3 things to be corrected in my output, if I'm generous. Apparently they're off to micromanage some new recruits instead.
No longer will I need to write for the three audiences of the recipient of my response, the boss who doesn't understand it and the ombudsman who needs to have everything explained twiceTx for reminder on the Morries - I haven’t been there for a while but have a few £5 waiting for Xmas - I will look at this offer & the TCB oneDON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff. Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.

At the risk of injecting too much nauseating positivity, I had a damn good week!
- Knuckled down at work and got a lot off my plate before the BH weekend
- New post I want to apply for is hopefully getting advertised a week today
- Cancelled mobile broadband still paid cashback - £110 for less than a week's service
£100 to home maintenance budget, £10 to OP budget
- Mrs E's mega bonus has finally paid out. This was 10% of her salary before deductions (about £2,500 after) and it meant that she has just had her highest monthly wage ever (in 40 years). It's probably a one-off, but it was great for her. Basically she was promoted, so highest performance grade had to apply
There were some things that didn't work out (lack of sleep, still a bit frazzled, not as many studies of the quality I'd like etc.) but definitely a win in the end.
Today we've been to the local shopping mall with the children and tomorrow Mrs E is taking DD2 to watch an animated film at the cinema in the morning.13
