It would appear that Child Benefit has now gone up. £3 extra for 2 children every 4 weeks. So 37.5p a week per child? I will use it to buy another two chateaux for the collection7

Joking aside, our finances may start to feel a bit less tight in a few monthsThinking about our incoming windfall, I think the dear departed rellies would have liked us to continue setting up DD1 and DD2 for their young adult years. My initial thought had been to use £1,000 of the £6,000 to contribute to their investments. Upon reflection, however, I think this is maybe disproportionate when considering the practical challenges we're facing in terms of home repairs required in the immediate future. Having kicked ideas around, we've settled for reinstating monthly investments into ISAs for them, something that the mini budget debacle had kicked into the long grass. £41 paid for DD1, £19 for DD2.At some point we will need to consider whether the targets need to be inflation adjusted (the amounts for student support in Scotland haven't been updated for some time). But that is a) a first world problem and b) too big to look at just now8

Excuse the personal finance logorrhoea, there's a lot going on that needs a wee bit of consideration in the short term and I'm trying to keep myself right by recording it.The next thing to sort out is a new BT card to move just over £2,000 onto. I was accepted for a Spanish bank credit card this afternoon with £25 cashback and 0% interest on BT for 15 months. Cashback has tracked. It also has a 1% monthly repayment which is useful as it will improve cashflow by about £55/mth (albeit not actually reducing the balance by any meaningful amount)!I had to sort through my entire financial filing (such as it is) to find the card I'm looking to BT from
My bedroom floor is now a riot of paperwork that is at least arranged by provider.
Right. On with some actual proper work now9
