In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!6 -
After the dust settled on yesterday's budget, it would appear that we are in the very lucky and undeserved position of benefitting from it perhaps more than any other demographic.I will be able to earn a substantial amount across the course of the tax year via overtime and will no longer lose Child Benefit. This plus the NI reduction should make us in the region of £3,000 better off across the year vs what we had planned pre-budget.As the overtime is for the purpose of improving our quality of life and giving us back some of the nice to haves that we've cut over the last 4-5 months, this unplanned extra is not really required for any specific purpose. That said, I can't afford to waste it as everything is so expensive these days.My only definite plan at this point is to use it to pay off a relatively small credit card debt that has been lingering for the last year or so (c. £3,000). I have now appeased YNAB by setting up a definite plan to repay it by the end of 2025. It was 0% but I don't like having little debts hanging around. I think I could cope with a stoozing pot or the like but this was just a silly unplanned purchase and needs paid off at some point.Roll on a general election - I hope the current mob don't think that yesterday's tinkering has actually changed voting intentions (even for those of us who are consequentially better off because of it). I am sick of the general malaise that seems to have befallen us. Less culture war nonsense and more rebuilding our public services, please11

Sadly from what I've heard on the radio today public services are set for even more of a hammering over the next few years. Glad you will benefit from the budget and thats a very decent amount
. As a still working recipient of the SP I'm apparently going to be worse off, kind of takes the shine off the letter I received yesterday about the upcoming pension increase. Swings and roundabouts indeed.

@teapot2 - are you a victim of fiscal drag/frozen allowances?6

I think a lot of people will fall victim to frozen allowances~~including me sadly.
