First day back conquered, got more done than I'd hoped.
No real finance news, unless getting 2 packets of Bisto pigs in blankets gravy granules for 18p each counts?I suppose withdrawing a fiver from Prolific counts, too. I get paid tomorrow.
I finally remembered to write to the income protection provider to ask them to stop trying to take payments as I've cancelled the DD. Also found some contact details for MIL re. 2 overseas state pensions FIL has been receiving.7 -
Blimey, that complicates matters for MIL! It is enough hassle dealing with UK based authorities and companies at this time. I hope it is straightforward for her.
I recall you mentioning your FIL and his generosity previously. You must all feel his death acutely, following a short illness. It kept coming back to me at unexpected times, because (I have concluded over the years) I was not sufficiently prepared for it, if there is any such thing.Save £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £4863.32 out of £6000 after May (81.05%)

They do pigs in blankets gravy?!DON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff. Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.

Thanks @Suffolk_lassThe funeral is tomorrow, I am feeling pretty overwhelmed by it at the moment and I am just grateful that things will calm down a little once we move past this.Matters have been complicated by a demand from work that we return to the office one day a week. Not an unreasonable ask of itself but we were given less than a week's notice, the message was delivered in a rude and blunt fashion and I really struggled psychologically with the return. Not only is Glasgow city centre cold, miserable and full of dog **** and heartbreakingly sad homeless folk at 7 in the morning but I had forgotten just how much of a drain it is listening to boring office farts wittering on in the background. The only ones who seem to enjoy it are the micro-managing types, who missed having other people to bore with their "awesome office guy" personas
I spent an hour of my evening chasing Tui who have been uniquely unhelpful as regards helping MIL cancel our planned family holiday. It felt necessary to contact the CEO and MD, not something that I have ever felt the need to do before. It's crap, I should have been mourning, not arguing with idiots
DD1 is also reporting feeling blue. Mrs E thinks it is a combination of recent events, the dark winter and feeling that she's playing second fiddle to her little sister. It worries me, she has always been our little ray of sunshine and I don't want the world to squeeze that out of her.Hoping to come back with a more cheerful update in a few days, take care all11 -

Thinking of you today.
DD1 will be picking up on your household sadness too. I am sure you will find a way with her to celebrate positive memories of Grandad. It's a unique opportunity for her to record her love, memories and emotions (and may offer you insight into her sadness).
Our DS has SAD when he is indoors too much in winter that started when he was about 7 or 8, and daylight bulbs in his bedside light and an alarm that brightens the dark room for the 30 minutes before it is time to wake up were god-sendsSave £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £4863.32 out of £6000 after May (81.05%)
