@elantan - yes - happy bar the 9 weeks of stress we've had to bear. Apparently our neighbours are raging as we never notified them builders were starting? Pretty sure I did, but will make grovelling apology with flowers and chocs come Wed

@South_coast - all finished and tidied bar the refusal to do the stairs

Hopefully the cleaning team can be in and out tomorrow and you can start to build your new normal family life. You should ask the deep clean team to bring anything that is damaged to your attention too. Bad Naughty builders sometimes try to hide things they have broken or damaged (your main contractor may or may not know about these).

@Suffolk_lass - good idea - I am sure we have some surprises yet to come. One unpleasant surprise was discovering that there was also minimal damage to the roof of each of the built in cupboards on the first floor of the house. We probably should have expected this after the mess they made of our ceilings but we haven't had access to most of the cupboards for months. It's not the end of the world (nothing a quick sand, bit of white filler and a roller of paint wouldn't fix), still annoying as plaster dust has rained down on the contents of said cupboards!

The cleaners arrived bright and early and raring to go. Unfortunately one of them had a phobia of cats, so she was banished upstairs until we could get the cats out Directly before they arrived I'd discovered a dead mouse in one of the bedrooms. The living room was covered in feathers as well and we thought there was a dead bird under one of the couches. It transpired it was a live bird and the cleaners arrived just as I was dripping with sweat having lifted our 4 person couch one handed to crawl under it and try and shoo the bird away. I eventually managed to get it (alive) out of a window, but it wasn't the start to the day that I had planned   

I ordered some fun bits and bobs last night including wooden door wedges (plan is to keep doors open during the day as they're heavy for children to open), self adhesive felt for under furniture, adhesive gel corners for our fire door closers (they're bulky and dunt the wall if you open them quickly) and a new set of kitchen scales to replace the ones that the kitchen painters accidentally sprayed white. I know that's probably a super boring list, but I like household stuff  

I have been paid today, so will do a wee bit of virement. £7.60 withdrawn from Prolific and paid into my SIPP (£9.50 after tax relief). Home tomorrow!

Ed, that's wonderful!  Always a few reservations around building work, of course.  But great to get it clean and liveable, and the touch-up bits are doable by you.  Amazing that you managed to get the bird out yourself!
