Sounds like hell Ed, glad to hear it's coming to an end now. I hate getting people in to do jobs, and try to do as much as possible within my abilities myself - unfortunately that means the things outwith my abilities tend to get neglected for far too long! You've gone for it, bitten the bullet and it will soon be over and done with, and hopefully it'll be a loooong time before such upheaval and expense bothers you again!6

@SuperSecretSquirrel - I think that is a very fair description - nice to see you
The builders did not finish yesterday (surprised face). I took the opportunity to put the boot in slightly and explain that much of the woodwork on the way up to the new attic bedroom isn't well enough finished yet and would require further painting. They're out again today and will also be out again tomorrow as one of the joiners "has to look after his kids" (which I totally get, but it isn't something that you announce at 7:30 in the morning when you've told your boss you were working the day before). I am going to make my presence felt tomorrow, as hanging around like a bad smell seems to be the only thing that motivates them, perhaps I should have done that to begin with?
The builder today had a wee grumpy red face when he told me that and I sighed. I had to point out to him that a) I'm allowed to be at least as frustrated as he is when his workers not showing up delays us getting home again and b) it takes people a few seconds to get over annoyance and he doesn't need to get defensive because of itI am going to be horrendously frank in my old age
Not much financial going on, had to top up M-I-L's car with petrol as she's kindly letting us use it for a week. That and a wee bit of virement.

I turned up before the builders today and pecked like a mad hen
The painting is finished bar a few missed spots and touching up some door frames. They still have to add intumescent strips to the doors and are going to router these in (fine by me), as well as fixing a few wee transitions between doors5 -
Treated myself to a wee full Scottish breakfast at MoMo's as there's a 1/2 price offer on today and picked up a bottle of champagne (daring to dream)!
Other than that, heading into town with DDs and Mrs E for a stoat about and a visit to a few shops.
Financially I could only manage a bit of virement and a cheeky wee £4 into my SIPP from my personal spends account (£5 after tax relief).
