    TBH, I’m aware that FTTP providers that use Openreach will ‘sell’ a speed that doesn’t necessarily ‘need’ FTTP to deliver it,  like Sky selling ‘Superfast’ speed over FTTP, and BT selling Essential, F1 or F2 ‘speeds’ over FTTP, FWIW, when it comes to  ‘new sites’, only  FTTP is provided anyway, so obviously there is no choice but to use the FTTP network that exists , but in ‘overlay’ areas , where FTTC is available as well as FTTP, and a Superfast speed , rather than an Ultrafast speed is requested, it isn’t necessary for OR to pull in a new optical cable , unless it suits them , or the ISP has a policy of , if both are available, to install FTTP ,in BT case this is  to aid the BT PSTN switch off .
    BT has a FTTC stop sell policy in places like that , I don’t know if Sky has a similar policy , in fact , if they do, it’s to their detriment as they won’t be able to utilise their own regular MPF phone network if they prioritise FTTP over FTTC, but obviously in at least one case that’s what they did, there are a few trial areas where this is done irrespective, to test the process etc.
    The OR engineer has possible exaggerated the OR policy that it will always be FTTP in these circumstances everywhere , after all OR cannot dictate that MPF providers ( who supply their own dialtone via their own kit in the exchange )  are not allowed to connect their customers to it and have to use FTTP, ( this will reduce that company’s income and increase OR’s income ) it will eventually come, but it’s not here yet.
    It was only to simplify what the OP should do that the FTTC option was highlighted by myself , it’s still the most likely one, but in my defence I did also say that the copper pair would be redundant anyway, should FTTP be available , and used.

    Thanks, this is the point which I was trying to make, but perhaps not wording it correctly.  It was stated earlier on that if the customer was ordering super fast, then that would be delivered via FTTC and they would need to locate the phone socket which was previously covered over.  My point was that they might not need to do that as FTTP might be installed anyway, in which case they might be making a mess of their walls for no reason, if openreach are going to come out and install something different anyway.
    I think the quote was "‘Sky Superfast’ suggests FTTC", which for a lot a people it still does.
  • @Money_Grabber13579 - did they charge you any extra installation costs when they moved you on to full fibre ?
    No, I wasn’t asked to pay anything for the installation and didn’t know it was even going to happen until the day of the appointment (I was aware an appointment was arranged but didn’t expect anyone to turn up, but just make the change at the local cabinet).
