Moving flats during possible lockdown?

I'm half expecting there to be another lockdown this autumn, and I am due to be moving flats in about 6 weeks.

Is it likely that this would still be possible during a lockdown? I forget what the situation was like during the other lockdowns as I didn't need to move flats, so wasn't taking much notice.

Im worried that I may end up homeless if I give my notice to my current landlord but then can't move in to the next place

I don`t think it will happen in the next six weeks, December might be a possibility though depending on how things pan out.

Even last year I don't think people were actually prohibited from moving (especially not if they'd otherwise be homeless), it was more the practical issues caused by the various parties involved not being set up to suddenly work from home, and things like real-life viewings not being allowed.

Besides, why would your landlord be kicking you out if any new tenants weren't allowed to move in?
  • Apart from the first lockdown - as I recall - property transactions/moves were still allowed, so I wouldn't worry.

Also Boris pledged that there would be no turning back after the last lockdown and he'd rather see loads die than have to go back on his party line.

That means next to nothing really, they will U-turn at the drop of a hat if things get bad, getting the public to comply will be the hard part this time but they can shut shops and nightclubs I suppose if they need to (nightclubs should never have been re-opened at this stage IMO)
  • We moved in Jan during the lockdown, there was no issue at all. Bar having all four kids at home and in the way rather than in school 🙄

There have been no restrictions on moving during any of the lockdowns so far.

We moved during the first lockdown. We weren’t allowed in the house while the removal guys did their work but other than that it was no different to moving during normal times.

Boris has no issue going back on promises and pledges as we have seen.

But ultimately any lockdown will be based on the data.

Can't imagine it will be the strictest version as it's not no sustainable
  • My purchase completed about 5 weeks into the original lockdown. Even had a local removals company in to move me from rental to mine.

Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.
  • There's not been a ban on moving at all during previous lockdowns.
