Taking of money.....

So a group of about 15 people have arranged a "Old Hen" sort of do/meet in Blackpool
One member found a hotel who took the booking, she paid a £250 deposit by card
Another member has been receiving regular payments for the balance, all that cash is in hand, the hotel agreed to take cash when the mob arrive..
3 weeks ago the first lady saw a penny deduction from her bank which was later cancelled and returned after she asked the hotel about it
2 days ago the whole balance was showing as "pending" deduction from the first lady's bank account and has today gone out the bank leaving her skint, DDM's bouncing and, probably, getting overdraft fees and those £15 letters we all love telling us we are skint..
The hotel manage swore he had deleted the womans card details from their "system" but obviously that didnt work..
We cannot find out the hotels intention regarding the money, whether they are keeping it as payment in full (in which case the lady with the cash in hand can repay the lady now up S*** Street, or if they are refunding it (which would take 5 working days usually)
Any thoughts?
Has the hotel breached the DPA by retaining the lady's card details?
Over to you guys

No. It would be needed for damages, additional charges etc. Their terms and privacy policy will outline the data handling side of things. The error is in putting the transaction through on the card.maxmycardagain said:

By far the easiest course is for the cash to go into her account.1 -
Easily solved by the person with all the funds. Giving them the money and the overdraft is cleared 👍
Hotels will always keep card details. In case as per other thread going on about soiled bed. They can reclaim costs with not issues.
It's all in their T/C.Life in the slow lane1 -
The hotel isnt responding so we cannot confirm they are holding/keeping or refunding the money..

It doesn't matter at this stage, Get the money paid into the account. You can then pay again if the money is returned.

If the striking off notice is suspended, it is probably nothing to worry about. It likely simply means they missed some filing deadline or another.0 -
Well, you can be intransigent and keep insisting on this whilst you watch the lady continue to rack up charges while you argue the toss with the hotel. Or you can sort out the immediate problem, stop the charges and then argue it out with them.maxmycardagain said:

Given you'd have a duty to mitigate your losses you might find your unwillingness to find a short--term solution to her bank problem will leave you (or her) out of pocket.1
