Has been a spend day.  Ordered the bedding things that I need for the spare bed from my favourite shop.  Hopefully they will come to the branch near where I work during the coming week. Brought a new coat there and some treats on my way home.  So my budget is well over this month, but somethings I had to get and not planned to get this month.  Will try and be careful for the rest of the month.  Hopefully next week I will learn more as to what is happening about my shifts at work and other things going on. Yesterday I managed to take a couple of things to a cs and other bits to various recycling points - things that I cannot put into the communal recycling bin.
    Grateful for:
Being in contact with 2 members of my family.
    My favourite shop.
    Reasonable night sleep.

Lots of admin bits done today. Mum wrote a letter of complaint (great celebration because she managed to spell rectified), phoned about her alarm (the one attached that goes with her alarm button in case she falls) which did not go off when my niece left at gone 10 pm the other evening. They haven't had a signal from it since December. It's not vitally important. It's something that was put in place for her partner, the door alarm went off if he managed to get through it outside of daylight hours - all the house keys were hidden from him at that point, but he still did it a time or two.

So they are going to get someone to come out and look at it but he will show me how to turn it on and off (it's unnecessary as long as I'm here but if I know it's off I can go outside before 7 am and after 9.30 pm (those crab apples on the canal bank will be mine). The tree is on the far bank and there's no way to get to it on foot (would be possible if you were on a barge on the canal but not a great place to stop) but I think I can reach standing on the bridge over the canal but the path is only 3' wide and I would rather go when it's quiet so I'm not in the way of any pedestrians and don't get white van drivers 'making remarks'.

Mum also phoned about her hearing aids. I told her she had to call to make sure it was alright to take them in, they need to know who is coming into the hospital and at what time. We're going next Tuesday for a podiatry appointment and will drop off the hearing aids first. We will have to go through the infirmary one way system to the far end and then come back round to go into the new building for the podiatry appointment - we might need naps in the afternoon.

I worked out the SM bill last night and 81 pounds something is for use now (have the exact figure written down). Some of the rest is 'replacements' - DS2 used 15 bin bags on a mixture of plastic bottles, rubbish and tip items (I'm sorting them gradually) and mum's cleaner wanted a bin bag last week so I took the last roll out of the top of my wardrobe, so I added a new roll onto my list. I'm also putting together a list of items to buy from particular shops. Morries have a large paper bag of potatoes for 4 pound (have one in the shed) and Iceland do a large string sack of onions for less than a fiver - hoping when this heat drops I will be able to keep both in the shed throughout the winter (not the same bag obviously but shed storage is fairly good in the cooler months - the bake your own rolls and baguettes lasted for months in there).

Whilst I was doing my 'grumpy' post this morning I noticed the new hell 0 fresh offer and bagged one. 15 pounds for 3 meals for 2 people and about 20 pounds including 4 pounds postage for the next four weeks, if I want. I had a serious think about what I want/ need atm and decided to aim for cooking one veggie meal a day (new to me recipes when possible) - the hell 0 offer means that the ingredients and recipes all come together and I won't end up with the laptop perched on top of the mixer as there's not enough space for ingredients, chopping board etc. The other things I want to do are a daily walk (not done today) and to plant some seeds.

My news feed came up with an advert for a certain magazine and if I start with the December issue, I get a whole load of bonus mags and 'make your own' goodies - still pondering that one. I probably don't need it and it might make me feel guilty if I don't use the things but it might have a few bits mum could do with my help (keep her quiet). As for the bleep bleep stocking, I've decided to make a small one for the grandpuppy. I've seen a very simple pattern which I'll use as a base, it's small enough to not take very long (full size ones can take anything from six months to five years, doing them between other projects) and will give me the boost I need to complete the other outstanding projects and I could pick a new project for the New Year.

This afternoon I filled a few mushroom boxes from my compost bag. Some are salad leaves (lollo rosso, spinach, rocket, chinese cabbage + pea shoots), some are long grow period getting an early start (broccoli and red cabbage but the all year round cauli which should be started now has gone into hiding). The tomato bad I cleared last week now has rows of carrots, beetroot, radish and spring onions (short growing periods) and I've put swiss chard 3 to a very large pot with bluemoon and redmoon radish - good companions. Used the remaining bottles of water on any very dry bits, cut bottles for all the watering spikes I had left and added them to tubs. It started to rain but I had time to pack all my seeds, labels, pens and scissors into my bag and bring them in. very light shower but two downpours later.

I was going to go to b & q after six for sand and cement and a list of smaller items (thought it would be quiet and the rain would deter people) but went off the idea (was so wet I wasn't sure I could keep the sand and cement bags dry and by 6.30 pm I'd have been competing for taxis with all the little old ladies going to bingo. So will do a bit more in my room.

Grateful for easy but full of flavour food, sorting a few things in my head, using some of my plastic bottle stash.

NSD # 8 in the bag. Tomorrow and Saturday will definitely be spend days and possibly Sunday too but all planned and budgeted for so happy with that.

Not done much today except work and housework.

Mothernerd unfortunately I don’t have a cleaner but maybe one day. At the moment there is too much building and maintenance work needed or in progress. That combined with a houseful of dogs makes it a little awkward.

Grateful today for heavy rain which has cleared the air a little, lovely sunny intervals including one at lunch time so I could sit and eat my lunch in the garden and the 30 minute 30 degree wash on the washing machine, clothes aren’t dirty just need to be freshened up.
That money talks I don't deny, I heard it once, it said "Goodbye"
  • Thank you again for your good wishes. Not in Yorkshire @mothernerd, I'm on a Scottish island.
Another carp day. Got a bit upset after today's episode, even though this one didn't hurt me, despite him trying! I've got a lot on at the moment, worrying about a cluster in DS3's school, him bringing it home & it affecting hubby's dialysis, etc, on top of still feeling exhausted after wisdom teeth removal, thankfully no painkillers needed for 2 days. Had a cry in the headteacher's office & was a bit weepy on & off til @7pm when I took myself off to bed for a nap. My eyes were too tired to focus on sewing, but got the job finished after I woke up.
Needing to concentrate on self care a bit more. I'm consciously trying not to clench my facial muscles, hence the reduction in painkillers, so that's helping. Pleased it's nearly the weekend, I'm picking up a couple of friends on Saturday, & we're going to join a group doing a beach clean for two hours. Fingers crossed for a dry day!
Grateful for mine & DS3's negative LFTs, finishing a big sewing job, a certain pupil free day tomorrow, getting things off my chest
Use it up, wear it out
    Make do or do without!

If you see someone without a smile, give them one of yours 😃

My DS3 and his Beloved live in my house (I'm 'normally' - life pre-COVID - based there too) and it's like having a Irish setter and a St Bernard with the amount of hair they shed - they both have long hair and DS3's is wavy and gathers up all sorts of detritus in the 'balls' where she's attempted to brush/ comb it. The day of my father's funeral, mum's cousin offered to let me send him round to her house for a bath (he was 13 yo at the time). I phoned to ask her daughter to tackle his hair. I'm not sure she's forgiven me yet.
