Scrapping my car
Options
Hi everyone,
I have an old car I've wanted to get rid of for a while-I did an online quote and £190 to scrap it came back for it which seems a pretty good amount. I was quite surprised it was that high as I've read some older posts on here where people weren't getting much as I know scrap wasn't worth a lot a couple years ago.
It's a Peugeot 205. As far as I know nothing is missing off the car. Anyone know if I can genuinely get this much for it? Or should I try selling it first? I don't know much about cars so really have no idea how much it's worth and scrapping it seems the easiest thing to do but I thought I'd run it by the good people of this forum first.
Thanks.

I would imagine that it is worth that much as scrap. Peugeot 205s are not common these days, and people that have good ones will be looking for any number of parts to keep them going.
If the car is running and has an MOT, or could get an MOT, it is probably worth quite a bit more than its scrap value. The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.2 -
If it's a 3dr 205, then offer it to the GTi fans.
Even if it's a 5dr, there'll be loads of bits that'll be useful.
A 205 isn't heavy, but mixed metal scrap is expensive right now. But you've got a good source of bits for a classic that's got a lot of interest...1 -
The price sounds realistic, I got £150 for my picanto.
You could try selling first, or if it's a quick disposal you're after scrap it.Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.1 -
Maybe try a 205 Owner's club?Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.1

Many thanks for the replies and advice. It's a 3dr hatchback, been off the road for about 8 years with a SORN which I forgot to mention in the OP. I don't think there is anything major wrong with it that couldn't be fixed. I guess it's just deciding whether to take the easy option and just get it scrapped or try and get more for it with the parts as seems a shame if others could get some use out of it.0

If you have a price for scrap, could you list it on an online auction site, with the scrap price as the starting price and described accurately as "spares or repairs - requires trailer to collect"? If you get more, happy days. If you don't get any more, scrap in a week once the auction has ended.2

if you have access to Facebook then i'd search for Peugeot 205 groups and advertise it for sale on one of them as spares / repair.
Should get about £100+ easy

Hi, yes as grumpy said I already know I can get almost £200 just to scrap it and it seems from the replies here that it's an accurate figure but thanks for suggesting facebook I hadn't thought of that.
Thanks again for the replies they have been really helpful and I guess I will advertise it and see what happens.0 -
