Is anybody else getting pushed off their current EE SIM-Only contract?

I am currently out-of-contract and paying about £9 per month for 4GB but will get pushed onto a £19 per month 40GB 30-day rolling contract, if I do nothing.
My only other options are to sign up to a 24 month contract for £15 per month or leave EE.

Apparently my "current plan will no longer be supported after 29 September"

Of course, all the new contracts lose their free EU roaming.
It appears that this is just a sneaky way to remove the free roaming whilst extracting more money from customers.

Naturally, I am now looking at other networks who are happy to give me 4GB for around £6 so it has just given me the kick I need to switch!

Ask EE for your PAC and tell them what you intend switching to when they ask, which may be a day or two later by phone call. If they can't match it with a discounted tariff, go ahead and switch.

Yes, that is what I have done before.

I was just amazed by the fact that they were giving me no choice but to start a new contract, which flies in the face of their promise that existing customers would not be affected by the roaming charges as long as they stay on their current contract!

OP, if you're happy to pay an extra £1/m with EE for an extra 6gb data, then ask EE to put you on their £10/m for 10gb data (+U/L calls + texts) sim only plan. This is a Uswitch exclusive plan but EE will give you the same deal over the phone if you ask them nicely (i got the same deal via EE telesales recently). Of course the downside is that you enter into a new 12 month EE contract and EU roaming isn't included so these may well put you off.

Otherwise if you're happy with 4gb of data each month, then consider O2 and Three, both of whom offer a 4GB sim only plan via Uswitch for only £6/m, though you'll have to sign up to a new 12 month contract.

Yes I'm losing mine but the one I'm changing to isn't much more and gives much more data. I'll be paying £12 for 3GB.

Phone call from retentions may not happen. I requested a PAC for an out of contract sim-only over a week and a half ago but no call received.
I spent 25 years in the mobile industry, from 1994 to 2019. Worked for indies as well as the big networks, in their stores also in contact centres. I also hold a degree in telecoms engineering so I like to think I know what I’m talking about 😂

How is EE breaking that promise? They said nothing about being able to stay on a plan forever once you're outside of your minimum term?

Price should not be the only factor when deciding on another network too.

They offered me 3GB for £6, 12 month contract, as an option when informing me that my £4 tariff would end.

I'll still be switching next time I'm in UK (so that my number port goes through).

Lebara (Vodafone network) have a few interesting options - 3GB £4.95, 5GB £5.95 & 10GB £6.95 - all unlimited UK calls and texts (note they cap texts at something like 200 per day), plus 100 minutes to 41 countries.  I believe all are uswitch exclusives (cashback available one time only via TCB https://www.topcashback.co.uk/uswitch-mobile-comparison/).  All are 30 days, will renew automatically, you can turn off that off at any time.

If you later want to switch (or indeed renew early because you run out of data or want to roll what is left over) use this link (credit to those who provided it on another forum) https://mobile.lebara.com/gb/en/search/?text=exclusive

£12 for 3GB is a rip off!  You should not be paying more than £6 (even if you must stay with EE) - have a look at Plusnet offers & ask EE to match the one that works best for you.
