Dash cams

I use both "discrete" and "discreet" with similar frequency and both could be applicable in this case:BOWFER said:
You're certainly determined they may have meant a word no one actually uses, aren't you.Advocado said:They didn't want a discreet dashcam. They specifically asked for recommendations of discrete dashcams. But they haven't yet replied to my first post in this thread asking them to clarify what they mean. If/when the OP comes back, I'll be happy to offer them my opinion.
Shall we have a small wager they actually meant discreet all along?- "Discrete" = front and rear dashcams independent of each other
- "Discreet" = unobtrusive
We should not assume the OP wanted anything other than that which was written. In the context, "discrete" would be at least as viable the intended choice of word, if not more so, as "discreet"
Obviously a dashcam that is too discreet will fail to achieve the normally desired function of a dashcam:
I do not understand why some choose to assume the average person has a similarly low command of the English language as this:BOWFER said:chucked in a cupboard
I think it may well be found that the knowledge and use of the word "discrete" is far more widespread than some might imagine. Not everyone is equally ignorant.BOWFER said:Given not many people know the word discrete even exists
Maybe an English thing for the word 'discrete' to be frequently used, not a word I've ever heard used...at all....ever...up here.
A bit like 'cricket' or 'dandelion and burdock'
Would you like to take part in the small wager too?0 -
You'd best stick to your Irn Bru!BOWFER said:HAHA ok!

We export it to other chumps.0 -
I would like to see a dashcam built with the camera lens and sensor part on a long cable so it can be made small and unobtrusive. The recorder part could then be hidden out of sight under the dash.
Ive seen something like it for motorcycles, but the cameras are not small due to weather proofing and the brackets not suitable.0 -
I assume it cannot be long until dashcams are standard fitment in new cars, along with the equivalent of a plane's "black box", then everyone will be up in arms about human rights and privacy.basill said:I would like to see a dashcam built with the camera lens and sensor part on a long cable so it can be made small and unobtrusive. I think there is a version of the C3 that has dashcam as standard equipment.0 -
I think manufacturers should at least fit a couple of spare fuses for dash cams, given how popular they have become,0

I read a review of a new car that comes with a USB socket in the rear view mirror for a dashcam, I have forgotten which car though :-)Alanp said:I think manufacturers should at least fit a couple of spare fuses for dash cams, given how popular they have become,
My Volvo has a few cameras built in already and I have heard rumours that they could be used in the future with a subscription..0 -
Pretty rubbish that you have to pay a subscription for that. Might as well just install your own camera.basill said:

I have two cameras in my vehicle - one looking out the windscreen and the other looking out the rear window - very discrete.
They are not at all discreet though.
Both are Transcend DrivePro DP 200 and I hardly ever need to touch them - fully automatic and can be checked and files downloaded via Bluetooth, if required.
Never had any problems during 9 years of use with the same Sandisc 32GB SD cards.0 -
alot of dash cameras now gone up like everything else but i go for nextbase or viofo a129 or garmin dash0
