Issues with British Gas

Actually my rate is 3.03p per kWh of gas if you add the 5% VAT, still a bit less than Octopus state for this tariff (3.42p).0

I’ve just been on Uswitch and Compare the market and the prices don’t seem much different.0

OK - The smart meter isn't communicating so you are giving BG readings manually, however the Gas meter is battery powered and they can go rogue and register use when no gas is being used.Check the gas meter read and go "Commando" for a couple of days - NO Showers, Baths or Hot water and then check the meter0

@westofsouth What makes you think that
the gas readings were;
8th March-08928
19th July-09320
18th August-09351
were in kWh ? Not everybody makes that mistake.
423 m3 = 4710 kWh in over 5 months the beginning of which was the end of a drawn out winter is about par for the course.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill2 -
Your electricity usage seems fine. Its the gas that may be an issue. This is not an issue with "the provider" and needing to switch. We need to make sure you've giving the correct readings
There are many errors that can occur reading meters. E.g missing decimal point, incorrect units, reading in kwh rather than m3.
Can you post a picture of your meter with latest meter reading on here please. (Not your ihd, but the actual meter)0 -
The OP used 31 units of gas in the 30 days from 19th July to 18th August. It seems more credible that these units really were cubic metres than anything else I can think of.

I agree. If gas is being used to provide hot water then, depending on use (people/baths/showers etc), 11kWhs a day is not excessive. It’s about £10 a month in unit charges.Reed_Richards said:The OP used 31 units of gas in the 30 days from 19th July to 18th August. Mine is 2.89p per kWh and 18.7p per day.
That's an amazing price.TadleyBaggie said:Octopus Flexible, ...
However, the current price for Octopus Flexible for the East Midlands supply region (usually the cheapest supply region for gas) is 3.24 p/kWh and 23.85 p/day
The linked electricity rates are unfortunately not so competitive. Octopus does not offer gas only contracts to new applicants.
Furthermore, I would expect that variable tariff to increase significantly for both gas & electricity come October when Ofgem is increasing the price cap.
An average user in the East Midlands supply region could save over £60 a year switching to Igloo Pioneer, but as that is a variable tariff, expect that to go up in October too.
(£139 per year is the indicative price rise an average user across the country should expect)
Perhaps better to consider Utility Point, who would save an average user over £50 per year on a fixed dual fuel tariff - fixed for 18months.
So in both cases, the savings on offer elsewhere exceed the possible bribe Octopus may credit you with for joining them.
Even greater savings are available by choosing fixed tariffs from separate suppliers.

I think that we can expect all variable rates to increase on the 1st October in line with the Ofgem Cap. FWiW, the Octopus 2 year fix for gas for my region comes in at 4.55p/kWh which suggests to me that they are predicting higher gas prices. A 2 fix with Zog Energy comes in at 3.19p/kWh (as of yesterday) with the same daily standing charge.0

I don't profess to have a crystal ball over what gas prices will be in the future, but you could buy a futures contract yesterday for gas next month at 102p per therm, down from a recent high on Monday when it was 125p.[Deleted User] said:... Futures prices for summer 22 and winter 22 are currently 68.5p and 72.9p respectively.
The futures price for March 23 closed yesterday just shy of 70p.
