The buyer is a dealer - entirely his risk on the vehicle and he knows it.
Simply reply that the car was sold as seen in a private sale and you will not be engaging any further.

Keep an eye on the website and you'll soon see your old car:

  • The car was back up for sale on autotrader and on their website a few days after selling and then sold not long after.
  • Should I write back to the firm or simply just email? I have been told not to engage at all and to post the letter back as return to sender.

Sold so quickly - what margin did they make?

Just respond (once) that the car was a private sale, sold as seen, and the matter is closed and you will not engage with any further communication.

    Then ignore.
  • So I sold it for 26250 and they had it up for 29850.

Should I write to them and send the letter back to sender with the response enclosed?

Normally, the advice of this forum is to ignore.

It is very rare for a purchaser to actually get a legal letter done and sent, even though often threatened.

Wait to see what others advise.

What exactly does the letter say?

As a matter of interest what did the letter say? What repairs are they claiming for? Why do they claim you are responsible for repair costs? Are they claiming that you gave false information?

All the advice to ignore is probably correct but there's the other side of the story missing.
Sorry I can't think of anything profound, clever or witty to write here.
  • This is the letter I received.

That probably can't be simply ignored as it could be the LBA.

There are others that can advise better on how to respond.

I am certain that the dealer (expert) has no leg to stand on in a private sale (unless you were substantially dishonest in what was stated).
