My TV's still off in one of the affected areas. It's prompted me to get one of those Amazon fire sticks. I've been contemplating getting one for a while and this was the push I needed. I've no experience with these streaming sticks (arriving tomorrow) so I hope it's a pretty straight forward set up.............

Still looking like it will be weeks to fix this for most people affected. At the very least the BBC should offer a 1 month extension of the licence for those in the area. Simple enough.

What's tomato sauce got to do with anything?
Sorry I can't think of anything profound, clever or witty to write here.

Quite frankly why this is such a big deal to you I don't know, a transmitter being down is no grounds for any refunds, also where's your proof the service is still down for most of the affected people as that contradicts the bbc link posted earlier that services are largely restored

The BBC link isn't correct. The Yorkshire press is reporting as of 3 hours ago that most people are still without  a service. Just partial restoration in Middlesbrough and a few other areas. There should always be a refund for lack of service. Especially in this case where prison is on the cards for non payment.

There's no lack of service though, just because people don't have internet/catchup doesn't mean they're due a refund, the service is still there to use

You're not getting much joy on here. Maybe try whipping up a frenzy on social media e.g. local Facebook groups.

For at least the second time, there is no "lack of service".  The BBC is broadcasting.  Just not from that transmitter.  You have no case for a refund.  As I've already said if the BBC was not broadcasting at all from any transmitter/satellite, you would have a point.  But that is not the case.

As I say back in the 1970s, 1980s and the early 1990s, transmitters up and down the country were deliberately turned off for maintenance, occasionally being off all day.  Transmitters being out is not a new thing.  Of course Emley Moor famously collapsed in 1969 due to a build-up of ice on the guy wires, and it took the IBA (who owned the fallen structure) four days to restore a limited service then with a temporary mast, but it took another month to get a higher temporary mast in place to extend the reach, (and another six weeks to restore colour broadcasts on BBC Two) and then two years to get a new permanent mast built which opened in 1971.

Nowhere in any of the documentation/stories about Emley Moor do I see anybody in 1969 demanding refunds for the month or so that service from the mast - temporary or otherwise - was out.
