Bar prices are one of the joys of living in london …… ouch !Me and my hubby were like this. I was fiercely independent and he wanted to take care of me, we clashed loads at first till we sorted it out.Sealed pot challenge 822

My virus addled brain completely did not clock which day you meant for the date!
That sounds like it went well on the surface, heated debates are fantastic fun and good learning experiences as long as you're both clear that the argument is the fun of the debate rather than competing to decide who's right and entitled to ever speak on the subject
Bit poor to lose his phone, but these things happen, and it's decent of you to make sure he got back okay and decent of him to say he'd pay you back rather than assume
Sounds good that he lives outside London too so you've got distance to see how things build a bit more slowly3 -
I couldn't cope with the bar tab never mind the uber cost. I paid for a meal for 10 once for probably less than those two costs combined... however you did want the fabulous along with the frugal...Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

@savingholmes I am definitely not ok with the £111 Uber when I normally get the bus home - he not come back on this but I haven’t seen him yet again so .. I do feel I can’t remind him though…
he paid the £177 bar bill - and the previous cocktails which was £70 I would imagine as drinks were £19 each . I had one he had 2. Plus tips
plus whatever the last bill was
however he also ordered shots which I don’t ..
i particularly didn’t like adding £111 Uber into my YNAB and having to move money into a this massively underfunded cabs billl .I already have an expensive dinner and lunch booked with friends this month so had cash in there / friends from abroad over etc but london social can be so expensive- I am good at keeping that down - rarely go to dinner etc and live close enoughdawnybabes said:Me and my hubby were like this. @PennysIntoPounds we moved the date - it wasn’t you
I need to focus on finding a flat I think not a manDON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff. Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.

I agree with South_coast and I feel for your house buying funds - that's definitely a hit to them - ouch. It made me think of when I met MrShores. He was very much a spender not a saver, and his spending was in direct relation to his salary (easy come easy go). It took a long time to teach him that its not always how much money you have but what you do with it 😀😀😀.Mortgage 30 Jun'25. est. £209,470 £309,749

Have just been catching up! Oh so much going on and the taxi fare/situation ouch, but hey those are the memorable things in relationships sometimes especially if it progresses it will give you both something to laugh about. With some guys you find paying for a taxi would have been the first thing that happened and you realise when it all goes to pots that he is someone who just makes ladies to pick up the bills due to one excuse or the other lol. On this occasion though as he has not been resisting paying for all else we wait and see. I do get it though not being able or not wanting to ask about the taxi fare which he said he will pay. I am terrible though for things like that! Although I can afford to pay I hate it when a man says he will pay and he then just does not remember to fulfil. So let’s wait and see if he will tick another box of remembering “small” details of life which matter and do the taxi refund?
Getting serious after a long stretch of being single is tough. It can be scary I find to allow yourself to be in a vulnerable position of letting someone takeover or take care of certain aspects of your life. I understand though that without letting in relationships will not blossom.Initial mortgage bal £487.5k, current £258k, target £243,750(halfway!)
