Charge back

Hi,

I ordered a few items from Amazon which one of them was a new mobile phone.

The items were left outside our apparently, but they were not there when i got home. Contacted amazon and they requested i ring the police and report this before they can do anything else to help. Two months later i had the official police report and sent it to them, and what a shocker they have now said there is nothing they can do? Why have they asked me to do all this knowing that they would not do anything to fix this problem out?

I paid via Debit card, so worst case now can i ring my back up and go down the route of charge back because i have lost allot of money and feel Amazon had no plans on helping me sort it out.

Thanks

Presumably Amazon don't believe it was stolen.  Have they checked the IMEI number or whatever it is, to see if the phone is being used?

You are entitled to a refund, and if Amazon won't provide it, a chargeback is one route.  Do be aware however, that Amazon will almost certainly close your account and blacklist you and any associated accounts or addresses, so you need to weigh up whether that's worth the refund.
  • Thanks for the reply.

Why ask to get crime ref number and a police report, whn there was no point.

Its over a grand, so i need to get this money back somehow and this looks like the only way unfortunatly.

One reason is multiple identical post , missing IPhone etc claimed not to have been delivered .
Note its always customer claiming high end items not a pair of Amazon socks .

There is perhaps more to this than you're telling us, or that you are aware of.  I suspect Amazon don't believe it was stolen, otherwise they would have refunded you.

Also, slightly odd that it took two months to get a crime reference number/report, for a item that was allegedly stolen from a doorstep the CRN would be issued that day and the report within a week a most, most likely just with a "no investigation" report.

Do any couriers just dump £1000+ items on a doorstep? The last time I received a valuable item from Amazon it involved me giving the courier a code at the door to confirm it was for me.
  • Amazon would not take a email crime number and requested an official police statement that took up until now due to covid apparently which i then emailed them the PDF.
No code or sign happened, but a card was left in our door to say they were outside, which they were not.

They must have been outside to leave the card in the door .
Very unusual to say we are outside via a card in the door when you say they where not outside .Even stranger that the item they have outside is not .
My delivery s show on the Amazon app as 3 stops away and countdown .

Ah but... what would born_again say?

IIRC they work for a bank or other financial institution and I'm certain they have said many times that a chargeback will not work if there is proof of delivery.  And that delivery does not even have to be to the correct address.  (I know - it's bonkers... ).  I suspect that on that basis, if the goods were indeed delivered/left outside the OP's address, then a chageback won't work.

And if I'm wrong I'm sure born_again will explain.
  • I agree that they had been to my house, hence the card saying that they are left on the side gate which they was not there.. I could not get home intime to be there, so with that maybe they would of left it with a neighbour or re-delivered.

I am totally gutted to lose this money after waiting soo long for the official police report to arrive, which now was pointless.
