I’m not on benefits but pay £19 for my broadband, unlimited data.  Vodaphone Super fast 2 should be £26 but there was a promotion of £7 off.  Contract is for 2 years.

So just because BT say this is a special package for those on benefits, its still worth shopping around for a better deal.

In case you do not know BT have launched BT Essentials if you get UC/ESA/IS/JSA you can get for £20 or less per mth depending upon speeds unlimited broadband & calls.  https://www.bt.com/exp/broadband/home-essentials
Is that total including line rental?

No, it's excluding line rental. It's a broadband only deal.
    ???

I've signed up to it for the £20 a month deal. I will get 74mbps download speed and unlimited UK landline and mobile calls. PLUS, I get a free alexa phone (whatever that is) and a month free trial on the super duper fast broadband. There are no other charges on top, so line rental must be included. My first bill will be £29.99 (£9.99 for router and phone postage) and then £20 thereafter.

That price doesn't include line rental for landline phone, which is extra on top. Full details here. https://www.bt.com/broadband/home-essentials scroll down to the bottom "important information" and see "landline"
If you didn't sign up for the landline rental then you won't have any minutes in with your package.

I think you're looking at their standard charging terms which don't apply to these tariffs. Line rental and minutes (either 700 or unlimited depending on whether you opt for the £15 or £20 package) are included in these social tariffs. In fact when you sign up they'll also throw in a free Alexa phone or a couple of other style ones so you can take advantage of your 'digital voice' services. They do offer a call only tariff for a tenner. There is a one off £9.99 fee added to first bill for delivery of the equipment.

I've just signed up to the £15 package and it is serving purpose and is as advertised. I'll upgrade if I need better speed but I didn't spend 5 years planning this move to Cornwall to spend my time watching videos on youtube...lol

Other deals may work out better for some with cashback or discounts but this seems a pretty solid deal from BT that has no early termination fees and renews after a year if still eligible.

  • Other companies will also do a credit check before they accept you

BT do the same and the T&Cs state there may be a charge (there's 2 week gap where they check this. You can back out without any penalty).

My rating is rock bottom, but they didn't charge me anything

A quick search shows it’s a BT hand set which connects to an ‘Alexa’ if you have one,
Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.

So maybe this one then: https://www.bt.com/help/user-guides/phones/digital-voice/bt-advanced-digital-home-phone-with-alexa-built-in

I didn't realise third party devices like that had Alexa support.

Thank you for all the info!
i’ve signed up with BT.  £15 pm for phone line and broadband.  Lower speed than I was on but now my family have moved out it should be fine for me.
Also got 2 free VOIP phones coming.
I’d been with sky for over 15 years, I called to ask if they could match it but they couldn’t.  Didn’t think they would, but no bother in asking 😄
