I have thought of a way to improve the search facility. When you do a search in competition time you also search in all the sub catorgories like Post, Regular, advent, Chat, IW and Game over, if they create another clicky and Name it "Main competition board" and put all the comps in that. when you  search then you will only search in live comps.
HOPE THAT MAKES SENSE.

When you've done your initial search, if you click the 'Discussions' tab underneath you'll have more filter options to the right, which allow you to filter by boards. If you type (or pick from the dropdown) 'Competitions Time' in this, and then make sure 'Search in subcategories' is unticked, then you should get only live Comps without the need for a new board?

Thanks Ben, I have had a play with different settings and find that the results are OK for me.
