So it’s now with disputes and yes I’m still waiting for link / coop to prove I owe the debt.

Quite a few years ago Abbey National launched an account that was not supposed to go over drawn, Halifax also had a savings account that was supposedly much the same. 

As it turned out (much to the amazement of the big wigs but not to the guys in collections) the Abbey National account was able to go overdrawn and thousands did - it was a nightmare.

The point is - saying it should not go overdrawn is false. They can and do for all sorts of reasons e.g. a cheque bouncing for which you have already withdrawn the funds. Also, your account has been defaulted, whatever type of account it was - you haven't been defaulted 'for a current account'.

I would also recommend doing an SAR and finding out exactly what has happened - you need to know so you can escalate your complaint properly.
