Defaulted on a savings account 😱🤯

Subject Access Request. Basically a request for all information they hold in respect of you.
It's definately worth doing. Think the following link should help

As said before, phoning Link is pointless, they just bought your alleged debt, they will have no knowledge of how it was originally accrued, only the Coop will know that.
The time for phoning is over, you really need to send a formal written complaint, so that (A) it bypasses the call handlers, and (B) gets to the correct dept. who can properly deal with it.
A Subject Access Request would likely result in a whole myriad of information they may hold on you, and somewhere tucked away in the middle may be the details you are looking for, but having that information would not bring you any closer to a resolution here.
What you need is a real live person to look back in the records and discover why an outstanding balance remains on a savings account, how that came to be accrued, and to issue you with an explanation, a SAR will not do that, were as a written complaint may well do.
You would then have good reason to escalate the complaint to the FOS if you were not satisfied, and also the ICO who could, if they upheld your complaint, order the removal of the default, there is a process to follow here, not being funny, but ringing companies randomly will not get the result you are after.

The account will not be accessible to front-line customer services as it has been sold on.Leyshon20042000 said:The mystery continues.I rang link again on Saturday they are still saying they have sent me the statements…… still nothing received.
so I phoned coop again. There is no record on their system of the account so why are they defaulting me each month. Is there a direct letter I can send that states something like debt does not exsist. Remove default?
I wouldn’t actually mind paying it if they send me the evidence that I Owen them money but all they have sent me is proof I opened a savings account with the coop
It will be Link who are reporting to the CRAs every month, not the Co-op.0 -
Every action taken on the account will be recorded. A SAR will absolutely tell the OP how the account ended up being overdrawn.sourcrates said:As said before, phoning Link is pointless, they just bought your alleged debt, they will have no knowledge of how it was originally accrued, only the Coop will know that.

Yes that`s all well and good, but the OP knowing what went wrong, will not resolve the matter will it.ItsComingRome said:

If the OP knows what went wrong, they will then be able to successfully argue with the Co-op (or Link) to put things right rather than blindly arguing that "something must be wrong" but they have no idea if there is anything wrong, or what that is.sourcrates said:

I know the desire to be right (and to paint every financial institution as the Devil) is strong, but you really need to give it a rest at times.2 -

However, in order for this to progress to the FOS, should that be deemed necessary, the OP MUST exhaust the companies complaints procedure, in this case the Coop, doing anything else is just a waste of time.
No desire or otherwise to be right in that statement, its just a fact.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. OP just send a letter/SAR to Co Op as the account is with them, they will be able to trace it with as much information you can provide.0

Thanks guys.
I phoned Coop again on Tuesday, they’ve again said it’s link.
Link are saying it’s coop 🙃
31/2 weeks on they still haven’t sent me the information I need.
Escalating it to complaint now. I chased these statements again today that they keep telling me are coming. Still nothing has arrived 😬
My argument is basically.I held a savings account with coop. Which should not be able to go over drawn. The evidence presented confirms the account opened was a savings account therefore the default for a current account on my record is false. Can I also complain that I have had multiple calls requesting that they prove the debt exists and been told the statements will be sent and nothing has arrived ?The stupid thing is if I owe money I actually don’t mind paying it. But I refuse to pay something that I don’t recognise with no evidence that I owe it.The other thing is it was applied in jan 2017 does this mean it will drop off anyway in jan 2022?Getting there slowly:j:beer::eek::rotfl::T0 -
