Can I get a simple bank account with no credit check that won't show on credit report?

I need to open a bank account to pay for my grandma's care, but this is the only thing it can be used for as the council contribute some towards it and so it needs to be nothing but outgoing payments to the care company.

Can I get an account for this without having to open a normal bank account as I already have a few in my name for switching bonuses etc?

It's no big deal if not, I just would prefer to keep it fully separate

Thanks

Surely any such account would need to be in her name rather than yours anyway, assuming you have power of attorney?

slightly off topic, but I think top-up payments for care have to be made by a thrid party, not by the person who has the care (no idea as to the reasoning behind this, but I know the subject has come up on the benefits board before now.

I do have LPOA and I assumed the same but apparently it should be in my name

people report that Starling doesn't do hard credit checks

But you shouldn't be overly worried about hard credit checks, anyway, unless you are imminently planning to apply for a large loan (mortgage etc), and already have a number of hard checks in the last few months. A couple of hard checks in the last twelve months won't damage your creditworthiness.

    Alright

I think I'll just open a normal bank account.

Which one should I go for? Ideally one that has never and will likely never offer a switching bonus so I won't miss out in the future.

I already have HSBC, Halifax and Lloyds.

Or would it be possible to open a second account with one of these?

Opening multiple accounts is generally fine, most banks will allow more than one but some may have an upper limit.  Not really an issue if you're only opening one. The

If you can, I'd go with a second account with one of the ones you already bank with, as it will save a lot of admin with ID checks etc. I recently had to open a second account with my existing bank (NatWest) as I wanted to turn it into an executors account, and it only took me a few minutes online, because they already knew who I was - compared to having to make a trip into a (not so local) branch with several proofs of id to add a co-executor who didn;t already bank with them.

As has already been said, you can open an account with Starling Bank and they won't do any hard credit checks so long as you don't apply for the overdraft. They have never offered any switching bonus so it's unlikely you'd miss out on this either.
  • All current accounts will show on your credit report including Starling.

Starling plant a tree for each new joiner instead of offering a switch bonus.
