Fridge/freezer - Smeg vs AEG vs Bosch

Hello,

I have a very annoying inbuilt fridge/freezer with a motor/compressor which vibrates a lot. I've tried various different fixes but I'm basically at the point of looking to replace the unit with a new one. I know a new one might be the exact same or worse, but I'm willing to try.

Can anyone recommend which brand might be the most well built, or use the best quality parts out of Smeg / AEG / Bosch, or any others you might recommend?

My current Neff has an open back at the bottom where the compressor is, so my first thought was a unit with a complete metal back to reduce this type of noise. But equally as it's vibrational noise it might be a unit which has enough room for the legs to be slightly extended might be the best option. I have tried a mat before but this didn't reduce the vibrations.

Many thanks

The only Smeg I have is a dishwasher, and the quality IMO is awful.
My fridge freezer is Samsung (RL60GZEIH_SSL, not built-it) and it's very silent. No problems during 6 years.

  • Smegs are statement pieces, that's all. The selling point AFAIK is its looks, and if like me you aren't impressed its not even a contender.

Watching this thread with interest though.

I am sorry to state the obvious, but you did remove the transport bolts, didn't you?

    Sorry, for a fridge/freezer?
  • Cheers all for responses so far, Smeg isn't sounding that great after all.

    Another option: Siemens
  • Random Internet post I've found doesn't fill me with confidence for AEG:

AEG was a venerable German electrical and engineering company, but it collapsed years ago and the bits closed down or sold off.

Electrolux bought the rights to the AEG brand name on domestic appliances, so one branded AEG is made by Electrolux. Other brand names they own include Tricity Bendix, Zanussi, Frigidaire, Westinghouse in Australia, and about fifty others.

I think this depends. IMO AEG ceramic and induction hobs are ones of the best around.

I don't understand your question, but mine was about the bolts of your inbuilt fridge/freezer. Normally a compressor is suspended on springs to reduce transmitted vibration, but for transportation is fixed with bolts effectively disabling the springs.

  • Another random Internet find...

AEG were taken over by Electrolux and you now have to choose with care. The “old” AEG were tough as old boots and well built, but some of the newer AEG appliances are simply rebranded with Electrolux

Our - free-standing - Smeg fridge freezer is 24 years old and still going strong, although I can't deny it has a few idiosyncracies. Despite this, we love it 😍
