No, I'm not 100% because the mobile's casing had no markings on it to indicate which network it was originally on - I just have what the seller said to go on.

It's the "Code Error" message I'm getting! Would I get this message if the phone is already unlocked (but then why would it reject my Orange SIM?).

    Thanks,

    Geraint
when you say "orange sim is rejected" does it say "sim registration failed"? if so its prob barred (unless you havent registerd the orange sim).

No, it doesn't actually say "Orange SIM is rejected", just "Insert SIM Card".

Maybe if I try an unlock code for a O2 locked mobile it might work?

if it says "insert sim card" and youve got one in then either the sim card is faulty or dirty (clean the gold contacts on the sim with a rubber or try another sim) or the phone is faulty.
if its locked it should say "restricted" or similar

The SIM works fine in my other Orange phone so it must be the new mobile that's faulty - got it off eBay so lucky it didn't cost that much!

Many thanks for all your help!

also try cleaning the contacts in the phone where the sim goes and you can also try putting a bit of folded paper on top of the sim so it pushes down harder, it sometimes works if its just the connection.
if it under 18 months old you can get it fixed under warrenty even without receipt.
