If the goods did not conform to the contract (faulty, not as described, etc) they should refund outward postage and the reasonable cost of returning .
If you were cancelling your contract within 14 days beginning the day after the goods arrived they should refund the outward postage but not the return costs.
If you used their additional return policy outside of the above 14 days and the terms say they won't refund outward postage then no.
If the durable information they gave you didn't comply with providing the required information detailing your right to cancel you would have 1 year and 14 days to cancel your contract (and get a full refund including outward postage).
If they didn't notify you via durable means that you are responsible for the return costs then they are liable for this cost.

You do not have to pay return postage if you return goods within 28 days and use their return portal. You will get a return label.1

www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2013/3134/regulation/34/made(2) The trader must reimburse any payment for delivery received from the consumer, unless the consumer expressly chose a kind of delivery costing more than the least expensive common and generally acceptable kind of delivery offered by the trader.
So if standard delivery is £3 and you choose a different option that costs £5 the trader can retain the £2 difference by only refunding equal to the standard delivery fee.In the game of chess you can never let your adversary see your pieces1 -
I emailed them and this is what they said "The rest of the order was the carriage charge and we don't refund that when returns are made. This is a separate cost for shipping your goods to you."0

The problem appears to be that the OP did not cancel the contract, they used their returns service. The T&C's do differentiate between the two and only discuss the refund of postage where the customer has exercised the right to cancel it, either by emailing or writing to them. There is even a form linked to https://www.boohooman.com/on/demandware.static/-/Library-Sites-boohooman-content-global/default/dw92bf10ce/images/pdfs/070417_boohoo_CANCELLATION_FORM_WRKF_7821V3.pdf
It's a bit underhanded, but is it legal?1 -
